Just what the title says. At one time, one was sent to the Woodshed to fetch a switch.
Because they broke some sort of rule…

Because they "misbehaved"

Because they didn't fit in with a certain group…..

So…this will be all about that sort of thing….been blocked? Had a thread you were on shut down, and NOT because of anything YOU did?

There are no rules here, other than what Cricket lays out.

Except…..

Those who dwell in "Ivory Towers" who tend to look down their nose at others..are NOT welcome here.

Now, just imagine, for a moment…IF you were a part of this crew…
Image

And you all sat down for the Lunch part of the day…..what would you be talking about?

That is what this will be like. Got a problem doing a task? Ask away, maybe someone else can solve it, for you.

Not looking for those "My way, or the highway" types….they get boring after a while.

Just a Friendly bunch of ordinary people, who happen to like working with their hands, be it hand tools, or power tools.

Maybe not so much WHAT tool to buy, and more about HOW to use a given tool….anything from a "pen knife" to a Jack hammer….all are welcome. Come on in, sit down in a comfy chair, took your shoes off…and just relax..

A few years ago people used to shoot guns all night in the apartment parking lot. Fully automatic weapons even. I'd be willing to bet not a single one of those guns was legal, I'd be willing to bet quite a few of the people who did it aren't even allowed to be in possession of a gun.

Cops don't really come to this neighborhood. Not like they do other places. When they do show up for domestic situations and stuff, they almost always show up with 3+ cars and at least one person is going to jail.

It got so bad that even when we literally couldn't afford it I was trying to rent a hotel for the night just to get away from here. I just kept waiting for that bullet to come through the wall and hit one of us.

I guess the complex got tired of all the crap that goes with having people like that hang out in your buildings. Parking lot parties until 3 am, 30 people who don't even live here all parking the cars in the way of the residents and just bumping their music all night..

They started getting rid of all those types and things actually calmed down. The first few years living here was stressful to say the least.
Well, living in what most would consider a better neighborhood, we don't experience those antics. Unfortunately what we do experience, is break-ins. We were burgled once, when we were all asleep upstairs, wife, me, three daughters and house dog. A few years later, our detached garage was robbed multiple times. My wife and I were watching TV on a Friday evening around nine, when someone tried kicking on our front door. I had my phone nearly in my hand & called police, at the same time I grabbed a pistol, running towards the door. Police arrived as some teens were running off. We're in rural PA, but have a bad drug problem.

And..this is the same bunch that sent cops to my house as a Wellness Check...when my computer was down for 5 days....
Hmmm?
I would rather be cared about than forgotten. We missed giving you a hard time, too. What else are we living for?? Lol😆😆

All I heard from the cops, was that a website was concerned about not having heard from me in almost a week...

(Guess who one of the Crew was....the one that is AWOL at the moment..)
I hope he becomes unawoled. Hah. Never seen that word before.still waiting on the coffee pot ..

Coffee in hand, finally. Cool damp 69 degrees F, July 4th. Happy 4th to all. Politicians come and go. But the USA's friends and allies are important to US ( the people) no matter how badly the politicos try to mess it up. Our Fedex driver is a really nice lady who is "real good people". I introduced her to our new dog Gracie, yesterday. 6 hours later I'm in Wally's grocery section and who do I see but our Fedex driver (with her ear buds still in) in the deli section. I wheel my buggy right up beside her's and startle her. We get to talking about the 4th and she mentions she has family coming down from Canada and she was taking them to the Gulf coast of Texas near Corpus Christi. She informed me she was "Canadian" like it was a bad thing. I looked her in the eye and told her that Canada has always been a damn good neighbor to the US no matter what that idiot DT says. We wished each other well and finished shopping. We (USA) have a lot of other good neighbors, friends, and allies, and our country wouldn't be great without them. IMHO, of course.
Had a little fireworks action last night till the first downpour of rain shut that down. Suppose to rain more today. My fertilizer now has an inch of God's water on it. Ain't nothing better than that. No shop time yesterday after having other things come up before PT. Today the Big Boss lady is coming over for a fast and wild party time with us. Good day and Happy Independence from the tyranny of kings Day!!

Absolutely. All of my data is backed up locally except for pictures which are encrypted and stored in the cloud, and on two different computers, and four hard drives. Besides, all the important pictures are posted on LumberJocks.
Here is what we have:
  • Automatic hourly backups of personal machines.
  • Regular manual backups onto a fast RAID drive. Usually weekly.
  • One large primary backup drive for all systems, family photos, critical document scans, etc.
    • Two matching large backup drives which are cloned from the primary backup drive and swapped with a family member who lives out of state. The three drives make a "set" for offsite backups. We live in earthquake country.
The data is encrypted. Our children know how to recover the data if a crisis comes up.

I had a laptop stolen once. I was returning from a day at a customer site. The thieves got nothing because the laptop was using full disk encryption. The next morning, I bought a new laptop, restored from backup, and was up and running by lunch. I lost the previous day's work in the field, but nothing else. After that, I backed up the day's work onto an encrypted flash drive and put it in my pocket before leaving customer sites.

P.S. Test and confirm your backup system process all the way from backup through restoration. I had faulty backup software once, a long time ago. The backups were corrupted and could only be partially recovered. The company offered an update with a fix for the bug, but that did not replace my lost data, nor my trust. The company was well known in the backup industry, but I never bought anything from them again.

Good morning to all. Happy Independence Day to our US members! My partner got up and made the coffee this morning. I was awakened soon after. I noticed that I had a wet nose and my ear was being licked. Unfortunately, it was not my partner. That was around 5:00 AM.

Critter cam: Caught a mama raccoon with three babies. She was teaching them to swim. Dinner: Planned: Egg burrito. Actual: Finished leftover pizza and leftover cucumber/onion salad. Today: Something from the grill, I hope. My partner's diet is messing things up. I think it will be burgers and veggie burgers. In my opinion, veggie burgers do not cook well on the grill.

Woodworking:
I routed a hanging slot for the backer board for my partner's stained glass project. I used a template and bushing with a slot bit. (If she had been more patient, I could have used the new router table.) It was her first time using the nylon mesh on a stained glass project. The mesh worked well, but she encountered an unexpected problem with the clear glass "beads" (?). You could clearly see the nylon mesh grid showing through from behind. There was a mad scramble to unglue the entire project from the backer board, cut out the clear pieces, pick off the nylon mesh from them, put the project down on the backer and individually glue the clear pieces. It was a big sticky mess, but we got it done. Lesson learned: There is more to using that nylon mesh than my partner suspected.

I finished the new-to-us router table and tested it. It was not made that well, but is a major improvement over my temporary one. I shimmed wiggly parts that shouldn't wiggle, reglued a broken-off part, etc. The foam insulation I bought to seal the dust collection was too thick, so naturally I screwed the back down tighter rather than going out and buying thinner strip insulation.

I used screws so I could make future internal repairs and in case I want to replace it with a 4 inch hose fitting. The twelve screws around the perimeter seal the plate from leaking air. The six inner screws hold the pentagonal scrapwood filler, shown previously. I plan to put a coat of Arm-R-Seal on the plate. It is currently unfinished. It all works and LC approves.

My partner and I decided to give the old router table to the neighbor. It is a perfect fit for his woodworking, but he also needs a router for it. He showed me his small trim router, which won't do. We don't want to give away the Bosch router that came in the new router table for which we paid good money. We decided to give him my father-in-law's old Black and Decker router. It is mid-size, but takes only 1/4 inch router bits, which is all he has for his trim router. I made an adapter plate years ago. When I removed it, I discovered that I had already pre-drilled it for the Black and Decker router, which makes the reconfiguration job easy.

We will also give the neighbor our ancient Porter-Cable dovetail jig. The board delaminated, so I will replace it before giving it to the neighbor. (A friend sold me an almost new Rockler jig, which is much newer and better. We don't need two dovetail jigs.)

Wishing everyone a Happy 4th, a great day, and a good weekend!

AWOL is right up there with 'Failure to Go' and 'Malingering'.

I wanted to Article 15 an Airman 1st Class for malingering but the Dr's would not testify. Bunch of wussies. He would be late for work so he went to the clinic and complained of headaches. It was a open and shut case but the Dr's wouldn't testify. I had all the documentation from SSgt to MSgt Superintendent, to the Chief (E-9) but it didn't matter if the Doctors didn't testify that he made-up his headaches. Separated him for Failure to adapt to military life, not a criminal offense but he got a Less than Honorable.

I'm finishing my coffee now, and procrastinating because I'm dreading the yard work I'll be doing in the sauna today. It's already 80 degrees and 80% RH at 8:15 am. At least most of the time will be spent sitting on the mower. Happy 4th.
Do you smoke a stogie while riding on the mower? My Dad did that for years.

No big plans for today but we don't really "observe" many holidays. Just another day in the year at our house. Do need to run out and get a few items and my wife is nagging me to schedule to get my passport.

Passport...my daughter is texting my wife constantly and now my wife has decided I need to get it so we can go visit my daughter's boyfriends family in Canada. Why???? Meet them in Arizona last year and nice people but really have no desire to visit or hang out.

You also live in fire country, flood country, and riot country. I just live in the country... next to a volcano.

I just back-up my data, I don't back-up applications or settings. I've had trouble backing up the whole system and honestly it's easier to create a new system and add my data than it is to restore a system. I've also had issues with encrypted disks not being able to be un-encrypted. My Mac uses Time Machine to go back in time. It works pretty well, so I just let it run. I ignore my Windows machines, they are simply a PITA. My Linux boxes just get their data backed up since I can build a new Linux system in about 1/2 hour. I always have some flavor of Linux on a thumb drive, it comes in handy. Also, I'm happily retired so I have no work data on my home computers that's worthy of encryption.

Where I used to work we had a system where we could look up files from any day in the past. It saved my ass a couple of times.

During Amazon Prime daze I may buy a couple of monster hard drives so I can back up everything.

Time to play with Bonnie!

Good to see you are making progress. The gluing story made me laugh, I think we've all been there with a glue mess.

And, LC is simply adorable!

I went to watch a boxing match in Canada…
And a hockey game broke out!
When I first arrived in Canada, our new Canadian coworkers invited us to join them for drinks after work. They took us to a nearby pub. The pub had exotic dancers on a stage, peeling off their clothes to music one at a time. They even had a shower on the stage.

That was when I learned a key lesson about Canadian culture.

The customers were ignoring the women dancing on the stage. I felt sorry for the women and could sense their frustration. All of the customers were intently focused on the large screen TV on the opposite wall. It was showing an NHL hockey game.

At an emergency clinic with my wife. She got sent home from work cuz she wasn't feeling good.

They're probably about to admit her to a hospital cuz it looks like she's in DKA.

Few years ago I came home from work to find her in a coma and she was in one for about 10 days, doctors couldn't even tell me if she was gonna live.

She's awake and alert and cognisant. So maybe we caught it early enough.

They're doing a final comparison test I guess to see where the sugar in her blood is going. It sounds like there a chance she won't have to go.

Can't tell us how long she'd be in there and I'm supposed to leave Monday. It's 2 hours away but for an emergency it may as well be the next state over.

I dunno that I can even afford to NOT go.

Trying to call my boss and give him the heads up that I may not be able to go come Monday. Just gonna have to wait and see what happens I guess.
