Rockler is over priced for a lot of things but this is one area that they really have nailed down. Chances are they already have an aluminum plate (and theirs don't hardly flex at all) that will come pre-drilled for your router, a lift if applicable, and a starter pin for free routing.

That one is nice and cheap too, but i would just mt my router to a piece of ply or the bottom of the table your gonna mt the plate in that way i don't have to level the plate.

Just ordered a Triton 3 1/4 router with crank for my soon to be built TS extension … so I don't have to go the router lift route… $269.00 with free shipping from Woodcraft… Hoping I didn't screw up. I'm anticipating a beast of a router, above table height adjustment and bit replacement. Right now I'm leaning toward a Woodpecker plate, but haven't decided yet

I also have the Bosch 1617. With the Rockler plates linked above, what inserts should I get and why? I have the Bosch bushing set

that I'd like to be able to use, they're 2" wide - would I just want to get the 2 1/2" opening insert and otherwise use the standard insert? Or should I get one without a hole since 2 1/2" is wider than the bushing base?

Thanks!

I had a Rosseau plate for many years that I used with a PC 3 hp. It worked fine. Im in the process of building a new RT and I chose to go with the woodpecker aluminium plate, partly because it is drilled to fit the Triton 3 1/4 router that I'll be using.

Actually the RA1100 adapter comes with the kit, so I suppose I could just get a set of PC bushings just for table use. Then I'd just need the Insert for standard 1-3/8'' guide bushings. The insert with 2 1/2" opening for large bits - will that fit most bits but not raised panel bits I assume? If I ever get into that - what would I need to do?

The MLCS router plate you pointed at is only 1/4" thick. Woodpecker's alum plate is 3/8" thick. As far as PC guide bushings and brass inserts go, one of the twistloc rings included with the Woodpecker plate fits those.

I have the quiklift 420 and love it. But I do understand the price issue. I thought long and hard before I pulled the trigger on it but I haven't regretted it.

If you are a fanatic about being very precise (like I am) you need the woodpecker lift system and the Freud fence. Both have incredibly good micro adjustment capabilities.
