Food safe option to buff polyurethane?

Hey everyone, I am currently in the process of restoring a kitchen table. I have finished up with four coats of Minwax polyurethane and am now ready to try and buff it. I am hoping to buff it to a very high gloss, and most the methods I found suggest using automotive buffing compounds (Meguiars swirl remover and polish). My concern is that I am unsure if this can be used on a kitchen table, and will it be good safe. I have young children, who drop and eat food off the table from time to tome, so I need to make sure whatever I use to polish the table is safe for them to eat off of essentially. Any feedback/suggestions/guidance is much appreciated.

With small children, how often do you plan to be re-buffing the polish??? Not busting on ya but with 3 now in or out of college, I've got to tell yo that my kitchen table has taken some abuse, and I'm very glad it's got poly on it, (side note if you've got girls, nail polish will come off of poly).

As far as food safe, use the compounds to get the finish you want and then use soap and water, lightly to wash the table top, all will be well, any food dropped on it and consumed by hands will be in greater danger fro whatever is on their hands than will be on the table
