Project Information
I was getting ready to make a planing stop for my bench when I got side-tracked. It dawned on me how to make an easy-to-make deadman for my Sjobergs WoodWorking Bench. I made it so that it goes on & off the front of the bench in quite literally in only a second and slides easily back & forth between the legs of the bench. The weight of the lumber set on it keeps it securely in place while being used. It also will clamp in the tail vise for working on extra long pieces of lumber. Fortunately the cabinet has a 5/8" relief under the top so there was room to make the deadman fit flush with the front of the bench top. It has a piece of wood at the top to hook behind the lip under the top of the bench & a cleat that rides on the top runner for the cabinet / drawer assembly. It was even made from one of the old trestles from the Sjobergs bench that was replaced by the optional cabinet assembly. The adjustable shelf was made from a left over piece of the tail vise faces that I just finished making the other day. Why didn't Sjobergs think of that?! It would hardly cost any thing to make as another option, even with new materials.
