I love rust… easy to remove and brings the price down. And the one you are looking at has very little. A little elbow grease and it will clean up just fine.

Any saw I've had worth having has had rust.

 

That's barely rusty compared to some you see on CL, it wouldn't deter me from buying that saw if it is in good shape otherwise. You can use it as a point to get the price lower. Say, "look at all that rust, what a mess, how about $100"?

 

The ad does not tell you if it is a direct drive saw or a belt drive and what HP the motor is. The rust is not a problem but I would not buy a direct drive saw.

 

Bad thing about cast iron, it rust easy, the good thing about cast iron the rust cleans up easy, and if pitted, makes no difference on table flatness.

 

If you can't get it for no more than $100, keep looking. There are plenty of great deals on table saws in northern Wisconsin.

 

That's a nice deal IMO. Looks like a belt drive model to me…probably has a 1.5hp induction motor. The saw has the upgraded fence, and very little rust…it'll clean up nicely. It probably won't be listed long.

It wouldn't worry me a bit. From the picture it looks like a quick wipe with a rag and some Boeshield T9 would have it nice enough to meet my standards, but I am not one to obsess over a bit of patina on my cast iron.

Bottom line… It will quickly and easily clean up to a perfectly functional state. If you are fussy about a little patina it might be more work, but would still be doable with a reasonable amount of effort.

 

BTW, it amazes me that folks use a picture like that when selling. Two minutes with some oil or T9 and a rag and it would look 10X better. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I was in the market for a TS in that range.

 

I'd offer $100. BTW. I think I have two handwheels that will fit that saw. Came off a Ryobi-made Craftsman 315 saw. I can let them go cheap +shipping. PM me if interested.

I see it all the time. A table saw with a beat-up cooler on top and trashbags surrounding it. 2 minutes worth of effort would probably make the saw sell for 50% more, and 100% faster.

 

Personally, if it wasn't taken care from the standpoint of allowing rust to accumulate, I would think the rest of the saw might not be in good condition. I have had an item that fit this "not taken care of" category. Wasted a lot of money and still scrapped it.
Edit: Make sure parts are available for it.

 

Some WD40 and a scotch-brite pad on a sander will take that rust off in less than 5 minutes.

 

Check to see what that one would cost new.
$150 sounds a bit high.
The rust wouldn't bother me since it is easy to remove.
