Arbor shaft or motor shaft??

 

It's for the motor.

 

I have a 113.298030. The manual states that the motor shaft key is a 3/16" square Key. You'll need to measure how long. My saw is burried under a pile of stuff, as I install a new floor in my workshop, otherwise I would go measure it for you.

 

Go buy a $2 piece of 3/16" and cut your own. Chances are, if it ate the first one you'll be buying more anyway.

 

The one on my tablesaw is like a half round.

 

The half moons are cheap. I think Harbor Freight has a kit with a selection of them for under $8, but it may be metric.

Most auto parts stores carry them as do many home town small hardware stores.

I just use a piece of bar stock and shape my own.

If it was bad enough to ruin the key in the first place, I would bet you'll have damage on the pulley or the shaft, possibly enough to not hold tightly.

You can buy a woodruff key slot cutter and enlarge it, but it would be easier to take it to a machine shop or buy a new pulley.

I have a Craftsman 6" jointer and its knife roller shaft takes a #8, 1/2 round woodruff key. Ace Hardware sells 'em for $0.46 and has #'s. 6-10. Check you rowner's Manual
Illustrated parts breakdown item number list and it'll tell you the size. If you don't have the manual get it off the internet.

 

Thank you all. The Craftsman manual for this tablesaw only says "Key, Woodruff". That's not very helpful at all as you can imagine and that's why I made my posting. It's a 1/2 round Woodruff key but I'm having trouble figuring out which size of Woodruff key.

 

Tractor Supply carries lots of sizes as well as a big bag of assorted sizes.

 

You have probably solved this by now. But I believe its a 3/16 half round key. True value sells them her for 0.75 cents I bought 4 yesterday from my craftsman table saw. Any ideas on how to keep them from periodically falling out?

 

Which type set screw are you using, flat bottom or pointed? If they are the originals probably right. I began using the pointed one and a new less worn key on my jointer pulley, Then tightened the set screw very tight with just one tiny drop of med Loctite on threads it it finally is staying put. Came out about 6 times before I fixed it.

 

I've never looked at the bottom of the set screw. Yes its original as I am the original owner. I'll look for med loctite which I just googled and I think is "243 Blue Threadlocker Oil Resistant/Medium Strength, 6 ml. (37419) by Loctite". Thanks for the tips.

On both pulleys on my 113, there two set screws, one on top of the other. Tighten the bottom one tight, and the top one is to keep the bottom one ine place. Mine had a point to them. The second one can be a flat bottomed one.

 

O.K. bandit571 I can try that the next time I loose the key. For now I have it fixed in place with some threadlocker and I will see how that works out.

 

It's a good idea to occassionally check the tightness of set screws on all pulley driven machines. Set screws can loosen and when they do, will cause the pulley to wobble around and eventually deform the shaft and/or pulley, resulting in the key working it's way out.
