Wood movement in inlaid box lid?

I have made a mahogany tea box and cut a 3/16 rabbit all around the top. I've made a maple panel to sit in the rabbit on the top. It has really swirly grain and some burl in it.

If I glue the panel into the rabbit then cut off the lid, with the wood movement of the panel distort the shape of the lid over time? Do I use a little glue or glue all along the rabbit all the way around the lid?

IMO, looks like a very small rabbit, small amount of glue 90% chance of failure, 100 glue 50% ?
I would consider loose fit and either hide glue or silicone to attach panel?
Box is small enough so wood movement not going to be a huge problem but humidity can do some major damage!

Silicone stays flexible will move with the wood as will hide glue to a lesser degree. Only problem with silicone no finish will stick to it so either prefinish box or glue it together, apply finish then put small bead on the inside as insurance.

I make a lot of small boxes and have found in my experience that the panels are so small that the wood movement is negligible to non-existent.

It looks to me that your mitered corneres have been reinforced nicely and should do a good job, and so I would not worry about it too much.

Big panels, big movement; small panels, small movement.
