Why this site is not optimized for smartphones?

Over months / years, my activity on the Lumberjocks site went down.

Recently I responded on a project of a buddy a few weeks late and apologized that: "I lost a lot on the Lumberjocks site but this project caught my eye. It is awesome. I like the effect with the color."

My buddy asked me via personal message: "We're not hearing much from you lately, Eli. What are you up to? What are you working on? Are you well? We want to know."

I replied with an explanation of a long trip abroad, etc., but inside I felt that this was not the full answer and I didn't know what else bothers me and I decided to go back and visit the site every day.
Only after a few days, I realized that there is another important reason why my activity on the site went down. Over the years / months, more and more, I manage my digital life through the smartphone and not through the PC (Facebook, Google, Email, , Whatsupp, Calendar appointments, etc.). The Lmberjocks site is not suitable for smartphone and it is pity for me, that just for this site, I have to open the computer, read and respond. not every day I'm close to a computer.

Do I have friends in the same boat? Are the management of this wonderful site intent to make this site suitable for surfing by Smartphones?

A year or so ago they did some changes to the site to better accommodate smart phones. As diverlloyd said you can use it upright or landscape. It works better for me in landscape. The issue has been explained that the format of this site is rather old and will not accommodate an app or true mobile site. Apparently the investment to do those things is not worth it right now.

I use it quite often in landscape mode; it's unworkable otherwise. I agree it'd be nice if there was progress in this area, or even a willingness to explore it fully. Maybe that's been done, maybe not, but we don't hear much in the way of 'future plans' for the site either way. It is what it is.

I look at Buddies' Posts on my iPhone, often, pulled off of my email inbox. Sometimes, I comment, after signing in. That works fine. I also occasionally post some Forum Reply on my iPhone. The only "problem" I have with it is that I have to sign in every time. (I haven't yet figured out how to make the phone remember me.) I don't think there's a problem with the site itself regarding its mobile use. Is there an LJs "mobile app?" If there is, I know nothing of it. I simply open the site in the browser and treat it as though I were on my laptop.
Now I've confused myownbadself. I need a nap.

I used Iphone 4 and LG G3: until 1 year ago, I faced problems with any browser. As I wrote above: "they improved the site after I tried many times of surfing via the smartphone, I gave up, I was disappointed, and never tried again."
Now after reading the comments, I tried again and it works in a way that I can mange with it.

I have found that when I look at a section of this forum on my phone,"Craigslist poster are nuts" (or something like that), it starts at the very beginning. Years ago…
Inconvenient, I'll wait to see stuff on my iPad where things start with the most recent posts…

Yeah the site crashes IE on my phone in about 30-45 seconds. My screenshot is from a 3rd party browser, the only one I've found that doesn't crash in a minute on Windows phone. Unfortunately I can't use Chrome because Google and MS are having a cold war but soon I'll be switching back to Android so maybe it'll work better.

Just a guess from what I've read, but I think LJ was custom written years ago by LJ founder before any type of Internet forum software emerged. With the special features of the projects, blogs, etc., it would be very costly to move to one of the newer standard formats and keep all of the old content which is a big asset to LJ.

Wish forums were made to use with tapatalk app. It s way easier.

Never used it on my phone as it only has a 2" screen … by today's standards a dumb phone.
I use my Samsung Tab S tablet and only have one issue that is annoying.
The drop down for signing out appears over ads and makes it difficult to sign out.
Those adds need to be closed to make the sign out process work.

There have always been minor annoyances looking at the site with my phone but recently it's a total PITA when it comes to commenting. Just hangs and hangs when I'm typing, I've had the same phone for two years, I'm not sure what the deal is. And based on everything I've read, it's never gonna be optimized for phones. I understand the reasons why, nonetheless it's disappointing.
