I'm going to buy a DC unit from a guy this weekend. He is selling of his dad's old woodworking shop, so I'm going to poke around while I'm there. One of the things he has mentioned is a Champ Fond over arm router. The only info I can find on this thing is from an online auction where one was sold back in September (if this is the same model… It looks the same).

Overarm pin router, 15 ½" throat
19 ¾" x 15 ¾" tilting table
2HP, 220V, 1Ø motor
Handwheel for table adjustment

Any thoughts on what this would be worth? Would this make my plans for a router table redundant? I can't see myself doing to much fancy pattern work, so are there any other advantages/disadvantages compared to a nice router table?

I have an old Rockwell pin router and it's great for doing pattern work. As already mentioned it won't replace a router table despite being able to perform many of the same functions, it does them differently. It also usually requires more setup time than a traditional router table, at least in my experience.

Thanks guys. I think I'll probably pass on it unless it's super cheap. I just don't think I'll be doing much pattern work. I can see it being very convenient for certain operations, but most could be done on a router table with a bit more work, and my shop space isn't limitless (unfortunately).
