Think of panty-hose material. It's the ideal mesh for water-based paints. This was the suggestion of Jeff (forget his last name) who was the developer of the Enduro line of water-based paints. He subsequently sold his business to General Finishes.
When I was doing a lot of finishing, I bought shoe liners in a box of 100. This is what the Enduro paint company did. These are small shapeless nylon socks that are used in women's shoe stores when a customer wanted to try on shoes. They have an elastic band that was ideal for putting over the top of a one-liter pressure can. And the filtering was perfect for that paint…but I have no idea what the mesh size is.
After years of this process, I migrated over to the
3M PPS system has an integral filter in the lid of the 1-liter cup, so I don't filter anymore. Love the 3M PPS because you can spray in any direction, and, of course, I don't need to buy other filters. I note that the 3M system I use is marked as a legacy, so there is probably a newer version.
