Polishing epoxy inlay

I have a project that has a big CLEAR epoxy inlay sandwiched by 2 pieces of camphor wood. Ive sanded the epoxy to 5000 grit and the wood to 320. I've also used Osmo on the wood. My dilemma is that now I'm ready to polish the clear epoxy using polish specifically for epoxy. Do I simply tape off the edges between the wood and epoxy so as not to mess up the Osmo finish on the wood?
