I searched and browsed the site feedback forum topics but could not find another post related to this problem. Hard to believe I am the first one to post this question…
I frequently search for project ideas and especially lately it seems like a large number of the older project posts seem to have broken image links or at least a problem pulling them up. The project thumbnail images are sometimes visible but sometimes not. Clicking the zoom button, you are not able to move past the image that is missing which most often seems to be the first image. Sometimes the thumbnails seem to work okay but usually the thumbnail image is missing too. I don't know if I am just looking more at older posts lately or what but I seem to be seeing this more frequently lately.

Is there a known cause for this? I know that photobucket was an issue for a while at least. Other than sending a note to Cricket each time, I was hoping that someone might have an easy fix? Even better would be for LJ to ID the problem or problem images and implement a site-wide fix or at least display an image saying that the original image is not available if it can't be fixed.

EDIT: Adding an example. First thumbnail is missing the first image never loads. Interesting thing about this one is that if you go to the poster's project page, you can see the first image.

Well, I did some basic investigating. I went to some old projects and looked at the pictures, when I hover the "zoom" button I can see the link to where the button is going to take me. When I manually enter that link I get a "page not found" error. Which leads me to believe that either things got deleted, or moved somewhere else and the links not updated.

I've seen Cloudflare message intermittently as well but only recently. I've seeing the image issue for a longer period of time and it seems to be specific to the same project posts-they don't correct themselves over time. Just realized that I forgot to add an example of the image problem in the original post. I'll add a link now.

Nathan, several years ago the forum accidentally deleted a bunch of project photos, server death or something, the thumbnails were restored for most but not all so occasionally older projects have missing photos. Also, separate incident, there was a forum glitch that caused some photos to not show up unless the project poster clicked edit and resaved.

Bruce, when posting a project post, after you upload an image for the posting, you should see a remove link right below the thumbnail images at the top. That will delete the image from your posting so you can put in a different one.

For other images, such as in a post like this, once you have selected and uploaded an image, it puts a link to that image into the text box. Simply delete that link from the text box if you don't want to post it. It will have already been saved to the server and I don't know if they delete those at some point or not but if you don't include the link, it won't be in the post.
