I have a Grizzly G0555 14" bandsaw with the 6" riser block. I know that the manual suggests using a blade with a maximum width of 3/4 inch, but has anyone ever tried (successfully or disastrously) using a wider blade on this model of saw? Ease share your results if you have. My saw is quite old now and WAY out of warranty, so that is not a concern. My main concerns are safety and maintaining mechanical integrity of the machine.

I have this same saw, with the same riser, and I use this saw for re-sawing mostly. Hardwoods and soft. I do it all with a 1/2" blade. I have used a 5/8" blade and the 1/2" works as well as the 5/8" blade. I doubt you will be able to tension any larger blade enough, with this saw.

I agree, I have the same saw (30th anniversary edition) with the riser block. I thought I would try a 3/4 wood slicer, big mistake, blade wandered all over the place, wouldnt cut straight, no fault of the blade, just that machine cant handle it. I resaw with a Timberwolf 1/2 in 3 TPI blade, works perfectly, even 10 inch wide stock
