I'm eyeing my Christmas present, a Grizzly 6" Spiral Cutterhead Jointer 1.5 HP (#G0452Z). The indexed cutter head allows you to use each of the 4 sides before replacing them. This cutterhead is marketed as being superior to the flat blades and is much pricier, but I am using tropical hardwoods such as padouk, bloodwood, wenge, ebony and also some highly figured woods such as lychee, bubinga, eucalyptus, maple, cherry & claro walnut which when using a flat blade results in tear out. I don't need a glassy finish as the more expensive shelix cutterheads offer, but would like to avoid the tear out as much as possible and this seemed like a decent machine for the money.
Has anyone had experience with this indexed spiral cutterhead? Any input appreciated.
