So let me start by saying I'm usually not a pallet hoarder. But my buddy owns an industrial supply company where parts and equipment move in and out every day. Big heavy stuff. Sometimes I'll go by there and scavenge through his trash piles and find good hardwood boards in his pallet pile.
Well the other day, there were these 2 big steel disk thingamabobs on a piece of cardboard on a reddish colored pallet. I told him, "I need that!" He said if you can move the disks to another patter you can have it. So I made it work and the disks left out moments later.
Anyway, I got home and began pulling this pallet apart and this thing is a beast. Super heavy. Heaviest pallet I've ever moved. And the wood is red and super hard. When pulling nails out of it, I had to hook the nails with a pry bar and beat it with a hammer to get them out. And the prybar sometimes didn't even dent the wood. I planed a piece in my dewalt 735x and the machine did not like the wood at all. It really slowed the machine by taking a tiny bit off the surface.
What kind of wood is this???? I know someone here knows.
