Hay all, As some of you might know I pick up a Performax 22-44. and I'm getting it back together. I need to replace the inboard sandpaper retaining clip. I have removed the bad one and it took me forever to get it out of the drum. I asked Jet tech support, when I ordered the new one, if I could replace it without removing the drum. The guy said sure. There is barely room between the drum and the frame to get a finger in much less getting this big clip in and mounted. Was this guy just not knowledgeable about this procedure or am I not see the trick to getting this in? Thanks for any tips from those of you who might have replaced one of these.

I could not answer your question but I have a Steel City dual drum sander. My outfeed drum had a bad clip on the trailing end of the drum and it would never hold any paper longer then 2 passes on the wood. I wrapped both drums with hook and loop, and now I do not even use the clip on the trailing edge and never lose my sand paper. It now works like a champ!

No matter what I did I couldn't get that thing in there. I took the drum off and installed the clip. What a bit@h. But it's all together and I'm sanding. I still have to tweak the tracking a bit but this thing is sweet. $500 and I got a Performax 22-44. Plus $200 in parts. I'm happy!!!!!

I took the drum out of my 10-20 to work on that clip when I buggered it with the "Tuftool". No way I was getting my big mitts in there, otherwise. It's not that tough to take apart and reassemble. I use a pair of 45° bent needle nose pliers for pulling in the sandpaper there, too.
