I wonder if they are getting rid of stock in anticipation of a new model that is significantly different from this version. I know they did that with the Bessey clamps just before the newest version came out.

BTW - looks like I should stop by HD and see if they have the same deal locally.

 

yeah i'm going to stop by after work today. I'm driving the Miata, so I'm not sure it will fit in the car or not.

would there be any other reason to hold out for a sliding saw? just not seeing the extra couple of inches of crosscut ability as that big of a deal when I have a table saw.

I use CamelCamelCamel.com to check prices on Amazon. It is useful to see price history and also to get alerts if the price drops.

well I went over to Home Depot to ask about that saw and I found out it is the display model only. It does not come with the box, blade or accessories like the adjustment tool. that was kind of a deal-breaker for me. that would add at least $55 to the cost for a new Diablo blade and I still wouldn't have the tool. That puts the purchase price up to $316 with the blade compared to $349 for a new boxed item. Right next to it is the Ridgid model #4122 for $299 in the box. It also has a laser guide, carbide blade, work clamp, and dust bag with a lifetime warranty.

The Home Depot guy I talked to looked up when they put the DeWalt on sale and said it will go half price if it's still there in mid june and he expected there to be memorial day sales on everything, so I may wait a few weeks before pulling the trigger on anything.

 

I think i'd rather go with the DeWalt right now as I've read some bad stories about Ridgid warranty support. Not exactly a lifetime warranty if they quit making certain parts.

 

I saw it at Lowe's today for $199.

i just looked online. that's the DW715 which is only single bevel. The DW716 is dual bevel and it looks like it's also $349 like Home Depot. weird because it was $279 yesterday when I looked. Bet there will be a big sale for father's day.

 

The 716 is the go to trim saw for a substantial portion of professional trim/finish carpenters.

Its a great saw that will cut better than any slider. Unless you need the extra capacity stick with a non slider (and the 716 is at the top of the heap)

well look at this. wait a day and the price comes down even more. DW716 is now $307 (from $349). that's cheaper than the display model that i'd have to buy a blade for. maybe that came down as well. will have to check. This one has a light too.

They were 299 back in November iirc. On of the big online tool shops had them in their ebay store for $250.

Get the xps led version. Its better than a laser.

 

The one for $307 is the XPS. They didn't have any in the store but I could order one online. So nothing in the store was marked down yet. I think i'd buy the XPS before the display model unless they discount it quite a bit.

 

The light on the XPS is a great feature. I have the Dewalt 12" single bevel CMS. It didn't come with the light, but it was pre-wired for one. I bought one and installed it. I wouldn't want to be without it.

 

yeah i saw a youtube video showing one and i thought it was superior to the laser.

 

Could be the price reduction is a reflection of the China tariff. A miter saw is really a construction tool used by house builders. The largest board used in construction is a 2×12 that measures 1-1/2×11-1/4", so I think a cut width of 12" is all you would need. When choosing a miter saw, whether a compound or a slider, the principal thing I would look for would be how rigid the arm is. Any flexing of the arm would automatically disqualify it.

 

saw the DW716XPS on Amazon for $288, so i contacted Home Depot via chat and they matched their price. free shipping to my house by thursday. maybe i could have saved a bit waiting till memorial day or fathers day, but i needed it for a project i'm working on. pretty happy with the price compared to what I would have had to pay and the $135 in gift cards made it an easy purchase.

 

I have the DW716, great saw.
2 complaints about it though.
1. Comes with no hold down clamps and they are expensive.
2. Dust collection, Dewalt makes you buy an adapter to hook your vacuum line up. I was able to modify a tube extension to get mine to work, but it's a shame that you can't just hook up a hose and go with Dewalt stuff.

 

i could never understand why tool makers don't make universal hose fittings and adapters. can't these people get their act together on something so simple and necessary? on my current saw I have a rubber plumbing adapter that seems to work ok. i'll have to do something similar for the DeWalt no doubt.

 

That's one thing I like about Ridgid. All there stuff work with standard hose sizes. I just bought an Ridgid Orbital sander and you can hook up both 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 with no adapters what so ever.

 

I got my DW716XPS miter saw on wednesday (shipped to my house free) after ordering it from Home Depot online on sunday. What a great saw this is! I didn't have much time to use it, but initial tests look superb. I checked the accuracy of the 90 and 45 degree cuts and they're dead-on from the factory. This saw has a metal calibration plate instead of a sticker some cheaper saws use, so if it ever does go out of adjustment it will be easy to recalibrate. The XPS light is much better than a laser IMHO. it shines a light on both sides of the saw blade causing a shadow to appear exactly where the blade will cut. You can even see the kerfs of the blade, so if you line that up right next to your pencil line you'll get a perfect cut. I put a red arrow in the photo below where the shadow of the blade is and to the left of it is my pencil line. Really happy I got this saw and that Home Depot matched Amazon's price. Now I'll need to build a stand for it.
