Delta 50-853 double bag 3hp dust collector. Advice needed on a possible buy

Guys I've got a line on a Delta 50-583 double bag 3hp dust collector. The gentleman has agreed to 450 dollars out the door which I think is a good price until you think about the cost of putting better filers on the machine.

I figure another 200 bucks to put some wynn filters on it.

So heres my question is 450 a good price for the dust collector or should I just save my money and by the grizzly G0562Z that already has the canisters on it and is brandnew for 650 out the door?

Additionally would a dust collector of this size be to large for normal us in a 2 1/2 car garage. I figure If I had a collector this large I wouldn't need to move it around tool to tool but I could be blind to the larger is better dust collection myth.

I think this depends on what you have in your shop. I think it's more DC than you need, but bigger is always better.

I guess I'd probably think that a 1.5HP (the HF for example that you can get with coupon for $139) + wynn filter, and a Thien baffle is probably all you need.

If you have a lot of shop equipment, and especially if you needed to run more than one at a time, then you want 6" ducts and 1.5 HP won't be enough. If you were planning on a complete permanent duct arrangement, you also might want that much HP.

There is a school of thought, which I do highly regard (bill pentz) who would say you need a LOT of HP to get a LOT of CFM to get all the dust out. I'm not sure 3HP would be enough; Clearvue sells a 5hp motor to go with the pentz cyclone design and a 15" impeller.

My HF with Highland Woodworking felted bags is all I need. Yep, I have to change the hose to different tools, but so what. Dust collection is like anything in the shop. You can always buy bigger, faster, smoother, more expensive, different color, etc. Will that make you a better woodworker?
