I, too, wanted to try the Mission Oak Finish suggested by Jeff Jewitt and looked for Bartley gel stains. Came up with the same problem you are having. I settled for MinWax Walnut Gel Stain and it has worked pretty well. Still in finishing or I would post a picture for you but I think it looks very similar to the image on the article you read that used the Reddish Brown Transtint due.

You might want to contact Bartleys and see if they intend to produce more Walnut gel stain.

You can substitute General Finishes Brown Mahogany for the Bartley's Walnut. Don't be put off by the word mahogany, just use it; it's a dead ringer for the Walnut.

I got a phone call from the Bartley folks yesterday. They said that a new batch of their stains had come in and they would be shipping mine today.
