bare HVLP turbine

I may have an opportunity to pick up a 6PSI, 65CFM turbine for $10. It's only the turbine. No hose, no gun, no nothing, and the only thing the guy knows about it is that it powers on and "air comes out the nozzle in the front".

Appears to be a Campbell Hausfeld HV3000 turbine. My question is, how universal are the hoses? I don't have an HVLP sprayer… or any other sprayer for that matter, but if I can find pieces and parts, can they be mixed and matched to make a working system?

I mean if I get this for $10 and it works, I could go to HF or something and get a gravity feed gun, but the hose… where would I get the hose? :)

They are; a lot of them use the same motor in fact. I know for sure my fuji mini-mite 4 and the apollo 1035 use the same exact 4 stage turbine unit inside.

The issue is the gun. Compressor guns are conversion guns; they are designed to take a higher volume of compressed air (~29-35psi at the gun) and convert it down to the 6-10psi at the gun tip.

The apollo 7500 is the only gun I know of that can be used on a compressor or a turbine. It's a great gun, I love mine, but it's not cheap.

I knew a guy that would drive 10 miles out of his way to get gas 3 cents cheaper.

You might save money on the turbine, but you will spend your time trying to assemble a system that you can buy complete for $500 or less and then be spraying tomorrow.

I know a lot of guys that like to assemble and create mechanical things. I'm not one of them, I'm a woodworker. If you are, go for it and enjoy the journey. If I can buy it easily, why would I build one? Good luck.
