If you find a solution, (other than what has been suggested) please let us know - as many will be switching to cordless tools in the future.

The auto start systems all require current draw from the tool to start. Festool has a remote switch that is expensive but works well. I have the Festool one for my cordless tracksaw. I agree with the other posters about the cheap remotes. I have 2 that run separate 1200CFM Jet dust collectors. Keeps it simple.

Several brands make HEPA filtered dust extractors. They run at lower volume than normal shop vacs because too much pressure can pull a sander into the wood and leave pigtails. Many have variable speed. Festool, Bosch, Makita, Fein and other brands I am sure. I have a Porter-Cable extractor but they don't sell it anymore. They will make your sandpaper last longer and keep your shop air much cleaner. If you don't want to spend that much you can get tool triggered outlet widgets like I-socket that keep the vacuum on for a few seconds after you stop the tool to clear the hose. I've read they wear out quickly though.

Clap on. Clap off. The Clapper!
Would slapping yourself on the forehead set it off? Important information for me I don't need to be startled when I'm in the middle of a DUH moment. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Funny.

If anyone took my post about "The Clapper" seriously, don't!

I doubt The Clapper would work well in a typical woodshop, but I have never actually owned one. In the US, their advertisements grabbed people's attention and wended heir way into popular culture. I was joking about that.

If your shop/work area is WIFI accessible you could use those Alarm sensors they put on your door/window to activate a Bluetooth outlet (15A, 100-125 V, 60Hz) connected to your vacuum. So you need to have some Tech knowledge to set it up to your network. So it'll activate when you pull miter saw and deactivate when you push/return the saw. You can program the smart outlet to keep running a minute or 2 after the saw is pushed back to it's resting place to collect the residual dust in the air around the saw.
I use the "AQARA" components for my home alarm system they work with Goggle Home, Amazon Alexis & Apple Home Kit. They're affordable and work very well, I buy these from Amazon. Go on Youtube to see how the AQARA system works to make a smart home. I'm no tech expert, I learned everything about AQARA system from watching Youtube. I've never tried it with my power tools but, think it might be possible. Of course for it to work well you must have good internet speed and a decent router.

I am a Fe$tool Bluetooth tragic and have invested extensively to take advantage of the convenience... worth every shekel.
Unfortunately there is a limit to Fe$tool tools, so I have to revert to primitive methods for my other machinery.

I initially tried voice activation using "Alexa"... great for start up (albeit machinery and/or my dusty), but because of the noise, I had to scream to get it to turn off... and most of the time my neighbours heard me before Alaxa and came into the workshop to turn it off manually for me.

So I had to revert to other means... I have written a few articles about it... You may get some ideas amongst all the BS I carry on about...
Dust extraction made easy(er) with remote control.
One point shop vac clean up.

Yes, agree that voice activation would be a problem in a shop environment. What I'm suggesting is with the Aqara window/door sensor would activate the Aqara smart outlet/plug to turn on the vacuum when you physically pull/move the saw and deactivated when you return the miter saw back to it's resting place. Only thing is you will need an Aqara hub connected to your network. The Aqara security cameras can be used as the hub to your network and provide security for your shop as well. You can connect 30+ Aqara devices (called child) to the camera via zigbee. Zigbee is the built in protocol that Aqara uses for their devices to talk to each other. Why I went with Aqara to make my home smart is because it was the only product that worked with Apple Home and it's wireless/affordable. Got it on Amazon good deals especially on Black Friday sales. Go on Youtube to get ideas on how to set it up. I'm no tech expert, I watched Youtube and went from there. Also, I never done this with power tools, it's just a theory but, seems feasible.

I use these they work great. My dust collector and air compressor are remote and I also use this to stary my router when it is mounted in a table. Clip the remote to your belt .
