Almost an accident & a question on Veritas Router Tables

So I bought my first ever rail & stile bit set, watched a couple videos and set up for my first test cut. Turned the router on … and suddenly there's red plastic flying everywhere:

The router had slipped out of one of its mounts:

Luckily it just chewed up the plastic insert and didn't hit the steel table:

I'm sure I must have been sloppy in setting up the router the last time, so I take all blame, but I was wondering what people thought of these older Veritas Router tables, how they stack up against other commercial tables and whether they had any reservations using them with larger bits etc? (Its the only router table I've ever used, so nothing to compare it to).

I know it s not what you want to hear, but I used that same Lee Valley router table for years before I upgraded to my current setup. I mounted a DeWalt DW625 (3hp) router to it and never once had a problem.

In fact, it s still out in the storage area. They still bring a decent price.

Thats actually exactly what I wanted to hear…... I think I was just sloppy on setup but if there was a design fault in the system I wanted to know …

Why did you change, if you don't mind me asking? And to what?

It was a nice bench top table. I built lots of furniture and cabinets using it. However, as I got into larger projects like residential doors, it wasn't up to the task. I replace it with a Bench Dog cast iron wing for my Delta table saw and a JessEm Mast-R-Lift II.
