Project Information

The BOSS said build some shelves after building my caboose, I said no problem and went to work building these super simple but up off the floor and out of the way shelves.
[I knew once I started building the model train full size I was going to get in trouble]

There's 30 something dowels in this project.

Now I can get back to building my train tracks now that I know what I have to put them on.
I was going to build the shelf as the train track but thought better of it once I got building the wall shelves.

These are made with maple and alder wood, would have much rather built them out of oak but use up whats on hand.

Looks great #4. The shelves give an illusion to the train being in a rail loading yard (though you may need to close one eye and have a glass or two of vino).

Must admit though, that train set really stands out… the angle (eye level not top down) and wooden base (shelf) just about robs me of my track fetish. OK… I lied… I mistook the edging for tracks… I'd even stoop so low as to say it should be on a single (separate) shelf by itself… nothing against the other models.

Only one "criticism", it could have benefited from some sort of glass cover to keep the dust of the models (especially the one on the top shelf). But then again that's is the only benefit of getting old… over the upcoming years as the dust builds up, our eyes deteriorate proportionally so we (as in the modellers) can't see it…. unfortunately SWMBOs always can. I'm building a BIG glass case for my boat… that way people can't get their eyes close enough to see the 17 year dust build up.

I know !!! I know!! #3 I will be working on it tomorrow. lol

Ducky I'm really only suppose to be using the bottom two selves and a cloth curtain to keep out the dust but there's just to much space up there for more models..

#3, You out-rank him by -1... Please pull rank… the brick wall seems to interfere with what little is left of my brain pattern and the voice is a tad more than hoarse… more like a herd… unlike #4's ears.

#4, you are preaching to the converted (and you'll probably finish up building a mezzanine shelf). Nevertheless, it'd be a shame to hide them, even if for protection… at least make the drapes out of transparent glass.

Can't possibly conceive why everyone is busting your chops… being new, it need's training wheels before it hits the track.

I ebonized the tracks and they turned out really dark in the pictures, this was with a birch plywood base and oak ties and rails.
