Hey Everyone,

Looking for some new saw blades.

I have been using some Forrest blades; spent hours aligning, cleaning, etc. I have a full kerf combination blade and a thing kerf ripping blade.

Both blades i cannot stop from burning the wood. They aren't dull, i had cleaned them, etc.

So, i'm looking to use something else. I was in the big Orange store, and grabbed a Diablo ripping blade for 28 bucks, figured what the hell, will get me through this little project.

Slapped it in, riving knife was already aligned, ripped, and it was night and day. It did an EXCELLENT job of ripping. I was in awe of how much better it was.

So; shopping now for something of a little more quality.

Anyone have any experience with the Whiteside saw blades? looks like just rebranded Dimar, which they state on their webpage. I see a bunch on Amazon and some other woodworking sites, but for the life of me i can't find a review.

I love their router bits, and would love to send them my business in blades too.

Thanks!

Ev

Damn ya'll!

I appreciate all the info and thoughts

And to be fair, I have stuff that I'm a fanboy of; so no hate from me there

I did learn thought that Forrest AND Rigid Carbide are in NJ, local to me. Didn't know I was in the saw blade epicenter, too bad gotta drive to PA for reasonably priced lumber.

Whiteside/Dimar full kerf will.ve arriving next week, and will be sending my blades to Forrest as well. Will update when I get em

Thanks! And hope you all had a happy Fourth!

Not into drama, my dude, so if you feel you need to win, ok.

Ev, hope the new and sharpened blades work for you.

Dang this is getting quite entertaining:) My fall back is to check the projects posted, usually speaks volumes?
Come to think of it I did have a Ridgid blade, great when new lost it's edge way to quick.(Unlike my Forresters:) or the Dimars)

I got one new Forest Blade that was cutting rough, and sent it back, got a replacement. It's possible that your blade was not tensioned correctly…or is dull…or is both. Rigid Carbide seems like quality blades, never used one, and they seemed priced about the same as Forest.

First thing I did when I saw the less than well thought out comment. Wasn't surprised.

I wasn't referring to your comment Andre but to the person you were referring to that used the Forrest fanboy comment. I now know where your head is however. :) Peace.

I know your post is a few months old, but I was trying to find a review of the Whiteside/Dimsr blades and ran upon your post. I was wondering if you ever got a resolution for your Forrest blades. I looked at a "top blades of 2020", and the Forrest WW II got the top recommendation. One thing I noticed was where they listed the cons, and one was that they don't do well with a zero-clearance setup. The teeth are apparently made to allow the blade to stop when the saw stops…I'm assuming this cuts into a zero-clearance. The other con mentioned was that the blades goes so fast that they can burn certain woods due to the fast speed. I'm also wondering if raising the blade higher would help that. It actually makes sense that when the blade is higher, the teeth hit the wood more like they should vs hitting the wood at an angle with a low blade height. Just curious about this issue TBH

I think some are researching the difference between ridgid and ridge carbide blades. The former of which are no longer produced.

Some are also busy editing all the photos of their trinkets to show off to the clique and validate their worth.

I'm also curious how Everett got on with the Dimar. Cause I know there was nothing wrong with his saw -or- set up and technique. Despite claims to contrary. This was just another case of the simplest solution being correct. - Occam's razor.

The blade was/is the problem , and screamed out so. It's just that some didn't want that to be the case because then they'd have to admit the darling of the blade world sometimes has warts, or doesn't perform well every time. So they devised kinds of complex theories and assumptions to absolve the blade, and sleep well at nite.

KLB - who declared WW2 the best of 2020 ? I don't think anyone in the industry has done a head to head test of premium 40t combo blades in looooooong time. Most of those pseudo "best of " are just marketing swill to drive traffic to the authors' interests. (Affiliate Links) The couple I've seen are so wildly random to be useless. A comparison btw a $125 40t blade with 50t combo , or a 60t DeWalt and an 80t chingchongchang blade for $25 are hardly fair , or in my opinion relevant. Some haven't used or even seen the blades they're pimping. But they "researched" them extensively.

If you're going to wax on about 40t blades , get em all and cut real wood on real saws, not a virtual one.

I've actually been so busy, i've never even tried it! Same with the Forrest.

I sent them back to Forrest, and i guess they"fixed" em, but i haven't even thrown them on the saw yet.

Honestly, cuz of how little time i've had, the HD Diablos are cutting SO well i've just left em on; no burning, and glue-line quality edge (i still joint the edges before a blue up anyway).

It's like i'm afraid to mess with em.

When i finally get around to putting the other blades on, i'll report back.
