When You Spot A Spammer

No matter how amazing our spam prevention is, now and then a spammer gets through.

When you see a spammer, you can click on the flag, next to their post to alert me.

Another option (especially when it is a spammer posting multiple times) is to contact me via PM or via the "contact us" button near the bottom of the site.

Starting threads about the spammer doesn't speed up the removal of the spammer and responding to the spammer actually makes my job a bit more difficult because I have to find and manually remove those posts too.

If you see a bunch of posts by a single spammer, you only need to flag one of them and then contact me. It helps me tremendously when you provide me with the username of the spammer if you use email private messages to alert me.

Thank you everyone.

Thanks for the process, Cricket. I'll save your note for future reference. I wish you had a fix for the malware that gets in my hard drive. I just had to have both computers cleaned because this program called PC Clean was on there and using 60-80% of my RAM before I ever open a program. It was malware Big Time!!

Cheers, Jim

Hmmm, Soon as I saw MY PICTURE, I jumped straight to the bottom (before reading all the posts) to ask "Geeze. Did'ja HAVE TO use MY PIC for that???"

Now I gotta go up and read all the posts, in hopes that none of my LJ buddies have thrown me under the bus. :)

WHEW~ ! It looks like no one has blocked me … YET :)

And I gotta say that I was one of those blocking all the spammers posts and clicking the "flag" link on every one of their posts. I didn't realize it only takes ONE flag to send the message. I somehow thought each and every post was an "attack post" so I was flagging them all. I'll do better in the future.

If you look closely at the print-screen Cricket used above, it was one where I was telling someone who asked "How do I flag?" and I was telling him where the flag link is.

Oh yeah, Thanks Bosum and BigBlock for sticking up for me :)

looking at the replies in this post, I try to find the "flag" icon but do not see one except for the original post.

oh… nevermind. Thought "flag" was on the right hand side near "quote" and "new". I see it now on the left side under their picture.

That's probably because everyone knows you as a regular /frequent poster and with over 5000 posts could not possibly be a spammer.
I thought post #19 was funny.

That funny. I used to absolutely LIVE on a motorcycle chat board I belonged to. At one point someone pointed out how many of us had such high post counts. So someone took up and started tracking how many posts we made, and yeah, at one time I was crowned "King Motormouth" LOL

There is a tech type forum where I have 42,000+ posts.

How crazy, huh? LOLOL

Just a reminder, when we are dealing with a spammer or a troll, please do not interact with them at all. Simply use the flag option. You can also contact me by private message. When you reply to them, it takes me twice as long to remove all of the posts because instead of just locking the offending account, and removing the offending posts, I now have to remove all the replies as well.

Thank you for understanding.
