When does the Lumberjacks.com day begin

I was just wondering about the Daily Top 3 Projects. I often see projects with more views than those that get listed as the Top 3, even though they have the same date.

Does anyone know what time the day starts and ends for Lumberjocks when for the Daily Top 3? Or is there another way that the Top 3 are chosen rather than the number of views???

Not a big deal, just wondered whenever I noticed this.

Thanks

it's based on how many views and comments given in a time period.has nothing to do with the quality of a project.really is meaningless other than pumping up egos.im glad there getting rid of it.

There is formula. Best I can figure the formula is:
rank = [(number of views) + (X times the number of comments) + (Y times the number of folks that save it as favorite)]

At one point I had some rough idea of values for X and Y, but things changed and it's different now. Used to be comments are worth ~10 times a view (x=10), and saved favorites are worth ~30 single views (y=30).

There are a few things make the calculation wonky:

The scoring is not calculated continuously. It is a snap shot made couple times a hour. So if a post gets 10 comments and 4 favorites in 10 minutes, it can take up to hour for the rank to change.

Once a post achieves top 3 status, even if it is knocked out of top 3 later; the project keeps the TOP 3 tag. Can see this as TOP3 summary often has more than three TOP3 projects most days. This means data collection and analysis must be done in real time, not several days later.

There is way to cheat the TOP3 ranking by using favorite option. Favorites can be deleted (unlike posts); making it hard to catch friends intentionally inflating another friends project ranking; or find out when some data geek is trying to determine the weight of comments .vs. favorites by adding them to a project. :-(0)

YMMV

It truly is a cumulation of the daily top 3 of comments made, possibly one of the funnest threads here. Those concerned with a top 3 anything should look at this marvel and attempt to have this much fun woodworking. A Masterpiece to be sure. :))))

IOW enjoy life more, worry about stuff like Top 3 less, would be my recipe for woodworking happiness. Or just happiness.

This project is even more amazing because it is a one-hit-wonder. The creator was smart enough to go out on top of his game.
