I was just looking thru the the Jocks page and noticed that there are over 80 pages of LJ's with no Posts in over 3 years. Why are they still listed as Member's if they havent even made a single Post in over 3 years , I know it would cut the total members number down if they were removed and maybe some Investor might think you have lost members but if they are halfway smart they can look thier self and see all the Non Posting Members and know that the Total Members number listed on the main page is kind of Bogus.

Not everyone uses forums the same way…

I'm a hobbiest, woodworking in my basement, still working for a living, newly-minted Grandpa that is reading about projects that I hope to one day attempt. It seems odd that some of those who identify themselves as LumberJocks wouldn't want me and others like me to be able to listen in and learn from you.

I hope that you have room for your fans along with your peers in your forums.

I really appreciate learning from the LumberJocks and reading your answers to each other.

Thanks!

No ******************** I had this happen once….as it was chasing me down the street, I tripped and fell, broke my bottle of bourbon. Fell right smack in the middle of a pile of dog eggs.

I played dead…no tellin' what happened with the chicken.

Bad night…

I have several college degrees and a lifetime of experience in the front of college classrooms. I can discuss Boolean Algebra or Plato forms until the cows come home. But I cannot engage in small talk to save my soul. I have nearly zero social skills. I stereotypically exist in the fuzzy cloud of academe. I work with my hands mostly as a means of balancing the theoretical with the practical in my somewhat distorted life.

Do I lurk on this site? You bet. I am frankly in awe of you who discuss with such facile linguistic skill the arcane art of creating with wood. My gratitude for what you have shared with me is boundless. My appreciation for your talent borders on unreasonable envy. I am silenced in the presence of such notable human achievement.

And, believe it or not, that is not BS. Keep posting, oh you warriors with the noble hands. Show me your pictures, tell me of your simple solutions to complex problems, teach me to make baby steps in the wake of your path to awesome beauty. I shall remain a highly appreciative lurker. Thanks. Rick

"Thanks Rick"?

I prompted all of that Beautiful Prose? Well I'll be!

"My appreciation for your talent borders on unreasonable envy." That goes in both directions! BUT! There's nothing "unreasonable" about it. Knowledge is Knowledge. The more, the better.

There are a lot of very talented Guys on here and Ill bet that talent is not restricted to Woodwork alone.

I think it would be great if some of them shared their "Other Talents". "learning Experiences" for all of us.

Than You "SpindleMaker". I appreciate your ….UHMMMMMMMMM? "Comments" (Seems a Tad Understated).

Regards & Happy New Year To You And Yours: Rick

EDIT: "Prose" by Definition mans exactly the opposite to what You've written. Correct? Oh well. "Live & Learn".

Everyone goes through 'fits & starts' on projects, and posts; as well as the 'day-job' we all have. While I'm recently retired (with less free time now than I had before), I travelled for a living; and would go through long periods - a year or more - of not being in the shop, and having nothing new to contribute.

Having said this, I believe there is a broad consensus that many of the 'members' are fake IDs or just interlopers looking for something quick. Just me opinion.

I can't discuss Plato - but I did watch a lot of Pluto cartoons six or so decades ago-- also, I'm not going to be able to discuss Boolean Algebra with you either-- but I 'highly' support your position. I find it very distasteful when people elevate themselves above others, especially for reasons that do not give cause for taking such a position.

Once when my son was in elementary school we were eating ice cream and talking about different flavors. When it came to comparing chocolate ice cream to vanilla ice cream-his young mind could not comprehend that anyone could possibly like vanilla better than chocolate-to him the thought that anyone could possibly like vanilla better than chocolate was just silly. When we talked of it for a bit-it became clear my son not only thought the idea of vanilla being better than chocolate to be silly, but he was actually looking down on those silly people who thought vanilla was better than chocolate-how silly (maybe even stupid) those vanilla lovers must be - he thought. Over time it has become clear to me that my young son's way of thinking is not always limited to the young.

Somewhere along the line of time, my son changed his position on the chocolate vs vanilla controversy.

I don't know how you got that impression from the regular members here, but I can assure you it's not true, the whole point of this thread is to encourage the lurkers to become actual posters.every opinion matters, you can" discuss anything ,from Boolean Algebra to mundane events/ subjects, but if you don't post,no one can hear you.

Plato espoused his 'everyman', his 'Philosopher King' as one expert in both Gymnaesia (the 'eventing' side of our personality - Athletics and Business) and Academia (Knowledge and the Arts - perhaps woodworking). Boolean Algebra focuses on 'equivalence'; and why even Children of a Lesser God (those of us who do not have the skills that other do) can still call something our own - the Pride that goes into doing whatever Best we have.

Not sure why this is part of the thread - both Canon & Nikon cameras take the same picture, have the same capabilities - it's just a question of what name you want people to see strapped to your body…

Everyone - Have a great holiday.

I for one have projects and occasionally post when I have something to say. When I don't have anything to say, see a project that does not inspire me, or is so far above or below my skill set I usually pass on posting a comment. I read far too many postings that are limited to "nice work" "great job" and the such. To me such postings are little to no value. To force people to have to post such things is a waste of time. I encourage people to go to LumberJocks. It's a good source of project ideas and techniques when the contributor provides design and construction information. I am not interested in projects that people post looking only for praise and are unwilling to share their techniques and designs.

Why would a member need to post in order to be a member here? Aren t you kind of condemning those that have no typing, spelling, language or syntax skills and only want to read and learn to a terrible fate?

It s interesting that you only have one project showing in

- Dallas
So someone that doesn't post is illiterate?
Someone that doesn't post is probably afraid of getting told to F-off or told they know crap or told they should spend thousands on equipment when they state that they have only hundreds in their budget. Someone that doesn't post might not want to be called a "sheeple" by someone that can't read and refuses to accept facts as facts if they don't mesh with their wishes for things to be the way they want them to be. Someone that doesn't post might not want to discuss the idiocy that is gun laws in America or say how lovely a folded up flag in a box is. Someone that doesn't post might not have more than one bloody project and does that make them worth less to anyone to anyone does it?

Does it?

Christ, this forum is annoying beyond belief.

I think its been a good discussion. How much fun is it to speak only with people who agree with you? In fact, I like to be convinced of your side - if I'm convinced you're right, I must have been wrong and I've learned something, a good thing for me.

I hope each and everyone of you have a Grand New Year.

Send me no flowers
when I'm gone.
Come see me today.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

WHOOPPEE!!! Best Rant in a long time …LMAO!

Is that "worth less" or "worthless"? The answer to your question, if I've got it figured out is NO! Of course not!

PLUS. If you're an ex member and you find this forum "annoying beyond belief" why do you even read it? You even Posted on it? DUH?????

Oh well. Hope you feel better now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (With all due Respect, of course)

i was wondering… if he's an "Ex-member", then how could he log-in to post …? But Hey, I'm always being accused of picking on details. Then you have to question allocation of resources: we all have precious few minutes in our lifetime… why - just asking here - would anyone waste those minutes on something that "is annoying beyond belief"? Most things I find annoying - doing my tax return; balancing my check book: - I avoid and minimize to the best of my efforts…

There are a lot of other places to go; but, I won't.

Everyone, Do Take Care.

MJCD:

He's not really an "Ex Member" that's just his "Site Name". Just as yours is "MJDC". You have a choice when you sign up whether you want use your "Real Name" or your "Site Name" I chose to use my "Real Name". You can change it back any time you want to just by "Editing " your Profile.

No No that's not picking on details, well maybe it is. So what? You have a legitimate question. I'm attempting to answer it for you.

Yes the "annoying beyond belief" is what I also stressed. Totally ridiculous for him to be Bitching on this Post. Makes no sense.

Unless …...

I have no doubt that there are a few guys on here with multiple identities. All you need to do that is have more than one e-mail address so you can sign up again.

I think there is something a "Little Fishy" going on here with "EX". (COULD BE WRONG!) he has One Buddy that I had a Heavy Run-In with a few months back.(The above sounds just like him.) However that member has 107 Buddies (DUH) "EX" is NOT one of them and there is only ONE other Member who Counts "EX" as a Buddy.

So on, so forth. "There are a lot of other places to go; but, I won't." Nah! You needn't do that.

Stick around and enjoy the FUN!! ....LOL…

Happy New Year: Rick

EDIT: I just had a look at your Projects. They are ALL Beautiful pieces of work! You've also provided all of the Details with each one and offered to provide more details to anyone who would like them. Good For You!

"-Lead By Example; Make a Difference" You're certainly doing that my Friend!
