I was just looking thru the the Jocks page and noticed that there are over 80 pages of LJ's with no Posts in over 3 years. Why are they still listed as Member's if they havent even made a single Post in over 3 years , I know it would cut the total members number down if they were removed and maybe some Investor might think you have lost members but if they are halfway smart they can look thier self and see all the Non Posting Members and know that the Total Members number listed on the main page is kind of Bogus.

I go to a lot of sites, and some I don't post all that much at; some I am more active. That's just the way it is, and likely that is the way for a lot of other people. I will be posting some projects, soon. I've been pm'd by other members as to why I haven't posted any projects. It is because my photo skills/equipment are lacking. I'm working on it, but I have a lot of other interests, as well, and used to work piles of overtime/travel in my line of work. Persons asking why I haven't posted any projects should just get a life and look at what is being posted by other people, instead of bothering me.

Yeah, I think if you dont have at least 6 projects posted you should be shunned from the site. Wait let me check how many I have. Yeah 6 is good. You need to have an avearage of 1 post per day of membership. You must have a thread that has at least 20,000 replies on it and have started your own Personal Forum. Luckily there is no moderators on this site.

I just skip over all the info that is not posted by those who never participate.

On the other hand, maybe there should be a prize for those who post a lot of content…but only if the content gods deem it worthy and of quality… Where do we draw the line?

Sorry Bill, but it looks like you in for a shunning anyway. Remember that cutting boards are not counted toward the six project minumum.

Personally, I've been a member here for a year or so, & post at times, other times I don't. I really don't think it's anybody's affair whether I post, or don't post. And sometimes what I have to say ain't always the friendliest soundin', but then again, I've never been accused of bein' the nicest feller on the block. As far as postin' projects, here too!! Guilty as charged!! My computer skills are perty limited, & and am yet to figure out how to post a picture. I look at all the fantastic craftsmanship from other fellers on here, & think, who'd want to see what I do? It don't hold a candle to most here. I'm here because I WANT to be here, looking for information, reading about others concerns in our habits, new ideas, new project ideas, maybe, if I'm lucky, even chat with somebody. I don't claim to be a professional at what I do. I drove OTR 35 years. That was my life!! I started in woodworking 10 - 12 years ago, and have met some AMAZING folks in that time!! I am, for the most part, a self taught wood worker. I was born a truck driver, that's all I know well! But, I have persevered & learned as I went along. Made mistakes, learned from them, tried new ideas, bought tools, come up with new ideas that work for me. I enjoy woodworking for what it is. The creation with my hands & mind! A lot of my work is scroll saw work. But, I can do most anything I want to do within my physical limitations. I guess what I'm gettin' at with all this bein' said, is if it's all you got to do is get on a forum & look through pages of folks that don't post, than my guess is you've got ENTIRELY to much time on your hands, and should spend more time mindin' your own affairs, & not worry about what ain't none of your concern! just my two cents!

Yes, that would work. Unfortunately, since you are curently being shunned, it is as if you never posted this sixth project.

Sawdust703,

Don't worry about being nice. I get in trouble all the time for suggesting how they could have made something better. I don't care, I always look for constructive criticism on my projects and don't mind being wrong.

The wife says I'm a curmudgeon, I prefer to think of myself as not having the time to waste on those who don't wish to learn.

None of my projects, (except maybe my salmon), are very good. I am always looking for ways to improve.

Post away, add projects, you can't learn if you don't have input!

Thanks for being here!

Chuck,
I am sure you need a good shunning, you just shun yourself and we'll call it good. And none of your projects count anyways, I'll figure out a reason and get back to you. Your not a Canadian are you.

Ken,
You just shun yourself for being a canadian. Almost as bad as being a Yankee.

Thanks Dallas! Its great to hear from you again, Sir!! I just finished a 9030 4 WD JD tractor in 1/2'' oak plywood on the scroll saw. 19 hours in the project, just saw time, I've got the client a tractor. It turned out pretty good, but I can always advice from a few experts. I'm workin' on a Grandmothers' cross at the moment. I'll have to see if cant figger out how to get some pics on here.

I used to post a lot more than I do now, but over the last five months I've had lung cancer (fixed, we think), and three heart attacks, plus emphysema. Kind of slowed me down a bit :). I'm starting to post more now.

I want to thank the VA for taking care of me, and I want to thank everyone here for guidance and inspiration.

Merry Christmas to all!

Dallas,
Aint nothing worse then a damn yankee.

Bob,
Sorry to hear about your ills. I have a few friends that go and have gone to the VA in San Diego they have nothing but good things to say. I would say it would slow you down. Hope you are getting around a little better each day. Best of wishes this holiday season.

Flip the question: why do some feel the need to jabber on every topic and/or initiate silly threads. Not teeing off on the OP, but I am remarking about those windbags for whom no topic is too inane to miss the opportunity to submit another hollow post.

I haven't undertaken a new project since my last which was my workbench. I never got around to posting it as a project. I found I spent more time commenting here than woodworking. So I stopped posting. I have been collecting some hardwood dunnage, and have my sights on starting another project, but don't want to get caught up in commenting more than working. So… I check in occasionally, but rarely comment because it becomes cumbersome to keep up with all the fine folks here. There are some excellent woodworkers, and lovely people here.

As they say: ymmv.

the "workbench smack down" thread, for example, has ( as I type) 13 905 posts.

If you are logged in, you can start you reading where you last stopped.
If you are not logged in and you click on it, you will start at the very first post each time; then you have to ask "view all replies", click on the page number of one of the last pages and if you are Lucky you will start were you left the last time; otherwise you will have to go back or forward.

It seems that every action begs the question - what are the positives if I do 'this', what are the negatives if I do 'this', what are the positives if I don't do 'this', what are the negatives if I don't do 'this'? So, how does removing members fit into the above.

Membership is not my concern nor do I care but I do have a slight pet peeve when it comes to those members that post projects only to boast their own ego but don't bother to comment on others projects and or sometimes not even their own projects to thank those that do comment on their projects, to me that's just self centered and I've even un-buddied for that reason, than you have those infrequent flyers that jump in only to post a project jumping back out for weeks, months at a time, jumping back in only to post their projects never to comment on anything.

Blackie…..I see this everyday on here….I've had people to PM me or want to know (on here) how a certain project should be done, or one that I've posted, and wanted advice or help…you try to help these people, take the time to comment, and they never reply back….not even with a thank you, thanks, I appreciate it, or kiss my ???.....One thing I've noticed lately is that more and more people are joing LJs to do just like you said….Example: Just yesterday there were 99, 417 members…..This morning there are over 99, 700+....This site is growing by leaps and bounds, and it's not stopping…..When I joined LJs 5 years ago, there were about 10,000 members…
