I would love to hear your ideas on things we can do to improve LumberJocks.com for you.

What things do you love?

What things are you not so crazy about?

Are there features you would love to see added or fine-tuned?

Cricket

One thing I have wanted for years is an option to select all or any of my buddies to do a pm to all at once. Something I could just click on each name and send maybe how I am doing or what I have done or just have a nice day.

There was a thread a few months back of a few people complaining that "feature" had been removed.

There REALLY should be some way to search each section independently to weed out all the chaff. The Projects' "Tags Search" is a good start but falls far short of an elegant solution. There's not even a link to the Tag Search on the Projects page!! Each LJ Tab (Projects, Blogs, Reviews, . . . ) needs a search box that returns results from that specific area only, and the site needs an 'Advanced Search" window that allows the user to search by a combination of fields found on the LJ site.

This is a standard website tool that seems to be missing here.

How about a way to rotate images after they re uploaded.

- Scott
+1 Scott suggested this about 1.5 years ago, so is it safe to assume that image rotation is not a priority? If that isn't likely to ever happen, would it be possible to change the software so that it doesn't rotate images that are uploaded? I uploaded a pic the other day that was correctly oriented, but it was rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise by the LJ software.

Here's my list
1) add "+1" on comments made on a post. It's not a real "like" button, but at least to acknowledge which post has been favored the most in a long thread.
2) Better filtering of searches. The current search is horrendous. There's gotta be a better way to search just for projects, blogs, or threads or even responses to threads.
3) Where's the vendor section? It's been so long, I feel like it's the same as waiting for the next season of Sherlock.
4) Maybe some sort of community event section. Something all of us LJ's could possibly get involved in and have fun. Not sure what that looks like, but just the idea sounds interesting.

I have an interest in pretty much all of the different categories here. For that reason I tend to look at this site through the "floodgate" entry where all forums show up.

I even enjoy a "water cooler" post now and then.

When viewing the forums this way though, there are quite a large number of "Off topic. Click to see post" items that show up. They are easy enough to ignore, but I think it would be nifty to have a checkbox that lets me filter those out of my view of the site. Would be most excellent if it remembers my setting for that checkbox so I don't have to turn them off each time I visit the site.

A couple of suggestions:

Around the "Have your say…" area add:
1. a scroll to top of page button
2. a "Pulse" button eliminating the need to scroll back to the top of a thread to click on the pulse button
3. a way that if I am using Pulse and I am on page 4 of xxx after reading a thread I can return to the same page inside of Pulse. IEs back button will return me but it does not update / mark which threads I have read.

In general a way to filter out threads created by a specific user. Sort of like Micro$oft's Outlook "blocked sender" option for e-mail.

Some of the questions are common and reoccurring (like which is the best xxx) add a FAQ section and over time someone can convert these questions to the FAQ. Maybe a team of volunteers from this site?

How about a way to rotate images inside of LumberJocks? I know it can be done before posting but we still get a bunch of images with things laying on their sides. I believe there is meta-data attached to an image telling what orientation the camera was in when the photo was taken and additional meta data (?) regarding rotations done by other programs. It might just be necessary to read a different meta-data field when the server renders the thread before it is sent to the client browser.

I have not had time to read all 294 replies, so if I have repeated some then they are 2nd, 3th… for that particular request.

Thanks for asking.

If you scroll down just a bit to from the reply window, there is a section that shows the most recent threads from the Pulse page and a blue hyperlink on the right side "Go to Pulse page" so you don't have to scroll all the way to the top.

I don't know if Cricket is still following this thread but a big one for me is following linksfrom a message thread.
I prefer websites that open a new tab when clicking a link so the lumberjock forum page is still open.

It may sound like something little, but it can be a little inconvenient. Many times I like to refer to the thread while looking at the link at the same time.

I know it can be done by right clicking and then selecting "open link in new tab" but so many forums I am on open it automatically, I never remember to actually do it.

+1 for the "+1 counter"
+1 for the reverse order
+1 for better searching
+1 for open in a new window
+1 for getting the 'Off Topic' content moved to a section other than the Forum

And, can someone (please!) tell me why the back button doesn't work once I've logged in? Frustrating to always have to click the tab (Projects, Blogs, Forums.etc.) and then skip through the page I was last visiting.

Thanks for asking!
