Here is the culprit… Basically the switch lead fried and opened up(shut down) before the thermal overload reset could trip. This switch is 3/4" X 1-1/4" in size. The hole is 3/4" X 1-7/16"

This shows infinite resistance while switch is "on" (ohms scale in red at top)

Well my Ridgid R4330 lunchbox planer smoked on me this morning,

The Ridge Tool Company is an American manufacturing company that makes and distributes hand tools under the Ridgid brand name. The company was founded in 1923 in North Ridgeville, Ohio. In 1943, it relocated to its current location in Elyria, Ohio, and in 1966, it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Emerson Electric.

I bought a Ridgid orbital sander last month used it for 10 minutes and set it aside. The next day I came to the shop and found it sitting on a 1/2" hole it had dugout on my floor; it just turned itself on.

I like ghosts. Zombies are a different story.

Mike,

Why don't you play it safe and get a Replacement switch that all you have to do is Replace it?

You should be able to get the part... ... here, if you can't get it from HD / Ridgid…

I found it... it is Here...

Sure looks like it would just snap on, doesn t it?

I sure think it will fit. I "may" have to extend the length and width by maybe 1/16". The OEM switch was very tight in the opening. Thought I was going to break it trying to pop it out. Nothing a fine file couldn't fix.

I ordered two of them at ~$4.50/each. And CRAP!... a Grizzly tenoning jig jumped into my cart TOO! ;-)

Yeah Mark and Joe,
That ToolRepair site I had 50 (fifty) in my cart their and it just tallied all up as if they really did have that many obsolete switches! Needless to say I emptied my cart and got out of Dodge on horseback…

FYI, These bad connections usually do not trip thermal overloads unless the voltage drops very low. They normally generate enough heat to fail and open the circuit on their own.
