Looks suspiciously like the ever-ubiquitous and unwanted Ted's Woodworking spammers at work again. Seems like they actually went to the trouble of opening an LJ acccount in order to ply their wares . . .

Write BAD things publicly about TED, and he will block you evidently. I didn't get one.

All I can say about TED is if you have a curiosity, just go visit a pron site. TED isn't at all about woodworking, he's about identity theft. He will harvest your e-mail, and evidently if you do go to his site to get the "good stuff" you have to give quite a bit of personal information. We are funny, our defenses are up to identity theft, but hey free stuff, and a lot of people drop their guard.

Just say no to TED. If 16,000 appears in anything pertaining to woodworking, he's not bright enough to change his text, just say NO.

Every time one of TED s spammer clones shows up…not only flag the bastard, but BLOCK that thing!

Almost need a "Ted Patrol" on this site, like a Neighborhood Watch?

yeah the problem is it's new people or under different accounts and different email adddress's so it never ends, everyone needs to just stay on them and report as soon as possible.

FWIW:
Biggest problem with the latest 'TED' Spammers is how they do it:

1) They create a log in.

2) A special script posts spam into a random list of threads using the 1000 latest thread numbers as reference list.
Script waits just long enough between posts to avoid alerting admin for too many messages in short period.

3) Another thread takes the list of names collected during spam run, and send each and every one a PM.
The mass spam helps the newbie meet the forum requirements for: minimum number of posts, during a reasonable period of time; that enables them to send PM. Boom mass email!

There are many things admin can do to reduce spam, but the trade off is always some type of inconvenience for the valid new user. LJ already has several things turned on to reduce spam. :)
These go along way to reducing spam; but it hard to stop any truly dedicated spammer.

Yes, that is how spamming forums works….. DAMHIK

OK, one hint:
There are 'kiddie' scripts written by hackers posted on various hacking forums for just about every brand and version of popular Forum Software in use on WWW. It is a badge of honor to be first hacker to post scripts or 'how to' documents every time a popular forum changes it's security settings, membership requirements, and/or latest version software.
I don't dare post any links as proof. If you attempt to visit most hacking sites without using TOR browser, VPN, and/or some other protection to hide your identity; your home network becomes an instant target by simply surfing the sites.
Hacking curiosity will kill the unprotected cat. :-0)

Be safe, not sorry.

I got PM from 'woodworkfrce' on Oct 1st; Sent PM to Cricket and he was deleted almost immediately.

Since the spam-attack did not stop, I think more aggressive action is required.

PS Unfortunately the side-effect of this are multiple threads on forum about spamming….
