Actually I bought a slow speed 8" grinder with a decent tool rest on it. Not perfect, but I'm not as skiddish about throwing the edge onto the wheel and letting her rip. I've learned better how to adjust by hand. With the Veritas, its automatic, no fuss. I ground 17 chisels and 8 or 9 irons a week or two ago on the factory rest and I'm satisfied with the results. I knew an 8" would grind a more shallow hollow, but it really is quite a bit more shallow. Slightly harder to rock the chisel to find the bevel. This Veritas has served it's purpose for me. It's just as waste now to store it on the shelf for my kids to sell one day. Guess I'd better be good to them. My kids will probably decide on the rest home!

 

How much is the confirmation charge , Dave ?
$50 plus the shipping, plus the CCharge(?) , is almost the price of a brand new unit.

Dusty, I do a lot more buying than selling it seems, so I'm no expert on USPS. From what I can find, delivery confirmation is about $0.75. Can't find a price on the USPS site though, and not surprised. I'm told there is a cost difference between "retail" and "electronic". The $11.50 I quoted above may be too high. That's what I saw on the USPS site. Seems kinda high for the size box and weight. I could just pack it good using the original box and wrap it in grocery bag paper. May save a few $$$. I really dislike high shipping cost from sellers on ebay.

I'm not making a dime on shipping, and considering the time to wrap it up, drive to the post office, stand in line, yada, yada, I'm just trying to give the buyer, a fellow LJ, a break. I probably need to firm up just what the cheapest option is for this package Monday at the post office. I will post the cheapest option Monday evening.

About the price, I don't remember what Lee Valley charged me for shipping but probably similar, coming from Canada. I can't tell from their website. So assuming shipping is a wash, my unit, which is purt near like new is about 28% cheaper than buying new. Not a gloat, but fair. I can't recall ever seeing a markdown by Lee Valley on this item, but then again I have never looked. I paid full price, which IIRC was right at the current price. I'd probably be hesitant to sell to someone who is going to hard time me about the price. Complainers are never satisfied. Just not worth the hassle. Thanks for asking.
