Deforestation… I'm guilty!
Boys and Girls,
Before you start banging drums and shouting " foul… stick to the rules"… let this C19 pandemic suffragette wallow in his senility.
While many may argue that this topic has nothing to do with woodworking, let me clarify and enlighten you.
I'm not much of a green thumb, in fact I'm a failure at even growing weeds… years ago I asked the missus ,"What kind of a tree that was in the back yard?". She informed me that it was not a "tree" but an "overgrown weed".
Extrapolating that statement, weeds grow in lawns so cutting the lawn is my contribution to deforestation which has a lot to do with woodworking… follow the bouncing ball… lawn → weed → tree → forest → timber → woodworking… QED!
Recently I upgraded my tractor
to this zero turn ride-on.
RY48ZTR100.
The primary reason was due to me not using it on a regular basis and with the shelf life of modern petrol, I was always getting my carbies cleaned. While you can add additives to petrol to lengthen the shelf life, it still has a limit and eventually manages to clag up the works with little effort (or lack tere of) from me. That exacerbated by battery issues, that refused to recharge, I decided to investigate battery powered mowers (DOH!).
Prior to that decision, I purchased one of these cordless mowers,
(and got rid of my hand mower as it never existed) to get at the spots the tractor could not get to and using the brush cutter left me with bleeding (literally) shins from flung stones (I don't own long pants… ********************, I'm a bloody duck).
I initially assumed the RZT (Ryobi Zero-Turn) would use the same 36V batteries my cordless gardening tools used. I sat on one in Bunnings and was informed it doesn't use 36V batteries but a built-in rechargeable one… Too bloody late, I could already picture me riding down my wide nature strip with my flowing, receding hair fluttering in the breeze while I was eradicating that potential new growth forest.
I planned to do a review, however, we've had nothing but C19 issues and ******************** weather over the last couple of months, so I haven't had a chance to evaluate and pen a proper review.
For the benefit of remote family and friends, I made a video of first impressions and me trying, and it was trying, to learn to drive it with those stupid lever control, convincing one and all of my insanity, which was my attempt to give hints to any illogical discrepancies in my formal Will, when it eventuates.
For anyone sick of reading this, you can have a look at how not to steer a RZT.
Hopefully with a sober moment and clear skies, I will eventually turn the blades on,
shoot an evaluation video and maybe confront the purists here at LJ by posting a ride-on mower review.
PS. If I ever get pinched for DUI, I can always remove the blades to convert it into an ATV and drive down the pub for my cheap vino casks.
