Poor website performance

I hope you folks understand how poorly the site is running. It's near impossible to post a project with pictures. Not a good start for VerticalScope. The quality of LJ has been deteriorating since Escalate Media took over.

It's not the web content or content managers that are at issue, but seems the technology employed is inadequate. How about putting some resources into making the site run better.

The only value of LJ comes from member postings. Its getting increasingly more difficult to post.

Helps to have a phone with a 5.2 inch screen, the site loads relatively quickly over wifi and I can zoom in and out for reading topics. I hardly ever use a computer to get on the internet.
I don t know how you guys browse the site from a phone, it s completely unusable with microscopic text, non-mobile friendly formatting, and ads that cover most of the page.

Both yesterday and today I get the following error message when going to the main page of the site (lumberjocks.com). Is there anyone minding the store? From the error page I can get to the various subsections such as the forums, reviews, etc. However the single main page with excerpts from all sections is totally broken.

If you read back you can see that we were working very hard on the community yesterday. You may need to clear your cache and cookies if you are still seeing that error.

While that may work it is a bit drastic and can have many side-effects on all the non-lumberjocks use people make with their computers. Deleting all cookies will wipe out all pre-entered account numbers, usernames and other information for all non-lumberjocks websites (passwords are managed separately by browsers). I know from helping my dad with his computer that this would be a huge inconvenience as he would spend literally hours looking all that stuff up again.

All that was needed was deleting the 5 lumberjocks cookies.

I keep getting a "Jos A. Bank" popup. Everytime someone trys to defeat popups and ads, someone else is trying to bypass you with software developed for just that purpose. The internet, like TV, is the portal to the public where everyone is trying to sell you something. TV used to be free; not anymore. Internet will be pay per view someday.

I can zoom in with my phone but the fixed page size forces constant left/right scrolling. And I've had occasions where pop up ads blocked the page completely so that I couldn't do anything except tap on the ad. I've tried all the popular mobile browsers and none of them are any better about it.

Joe, you are so right. Seriously, people, the social media world would be so much better if every site took a lesson from Facebook…it runs smoothly, interactions are easy, privacy is simple to maintain…

Ad robots read your private messages on Facebook. The ads I see are based on my profile, which is fictional, so usually I see ads targeted for a 75-year old in Lompoc, California (beautiful Russian women over 50 want to meet me, flower festival news, etc). But when I heard that FB reads private mails, I proofed the claim by holding a fictious PM conversation with a friend, using words I knew would be searched- mortgage, Costa Rica. Two hours later the ads were for mortgage schemes and retirement in Costa Rica.

Try it for yourself.

I've been having a bit more trouble with the site as of late, and Its NOT my PC…

It is an older build but is more that fast enough…

It has,
Gigabyte P67 Motherboard, running a i5-2500k@4.5GHz, an older Galaxy GTX470, Corsair 60G SSD, I admit I'm a little short of ram since I burnt a stick of my Dominators and a few weeks ago I did a clean install of Windows 7 sp1…

So its not on my side, there is a real problem developing with their backend programing. Hopefully they will get it sorted out. I won't be going anywhere but its a bit troubling here on occasion.

How many 55 (my age) and up know what I'm saying?
