What are these Microsoft Windows you speak of?

 

On a mac… drop it into preview and there's a rotator there. If you do picts from iPhoto you can rotate there too.

In windows.. is this the new windows, the old windows, or the discontinued one that everyone still wants to use? ;-)

 

 

I suspect the problem for at least some people has nothing to do with rotating the image. You have to STORE the image after you have the correct image orientation. LJs uploads the file, not what you see on the screen.

dbhost, If you wish you can add this hint to your OP.

 

This is a problem with the website not the users. 99.9999999% of all portrait photos already contain orientation meta data. The website image tools don't know how to read it. That is a very rare problem for websites in the "modern era".

 

I am using Win7. When I right-click on the name of a .jpg file, there are the choice "Rotate clockwise" and "Rotate counterclockwise". Nothing else is needed.

I believe that in addition after rotating the image , you have to save it before posting it.
You also can rotate the images right from the image folder
Images in focus would also be nice.

 

Every other website on the interweave interweb auto rotates images based on embedded exif data.

 

I would bet that a lot of the photos posted come from a phone and thus it takes more of a challenge to rotate and save an image for those who do this.

 

I figure some are phone photos. I host mine on Google, and use their tools to rotate. I just got the nerve hit about having to look at someone's shop, or project sideways… It's a pet peeve I know…

 

You don't have to look at it if it bothers you. I figure people are doing the best they can. The web site could add a "rotate" button in the post editor. Some people still might have trouble using it. It's not like working a drawknife or something!

 

Ocelot, I disagree with you.
People post pictures for us to look at.
Out of respect for us the viewers, they should do their best to show their work and to post the pictures.
To rotate a picture is not rocket science.

 

I never waste my time looking at a project or post from someone has not invested the time to learn how to rotate pictures correctly.

 

I've decided to stop wasting my time reading posts by people that refuse to waste time…

 

I think what is missing is a lot of the pix in ? are posted from a phone. I have posted pix from my Iphone 4 and they ended up sideways. So it may not be as easy to fix as you think.

 

I've learned at least with an ipad that you need to be holding it in the correct orientation. In other words the button has to be on the right side when taking a picture. It may be the same with the iphone, I don't know because I don't have one.

Some people need to learn to be better picture takers, as well as practicing wood workers (this is me first and foremost).

 

I know that you were talking about my pics. I was using an iPad to post last night and it would not allow me to rotate the pics. I took care of it when I got to work this morning. Sorry for the inconvenience.

 

Jim, I will guarantee that the original post was not specifically aimed at you, even if it was applicable. It has been a recurring issue on LJ, and is becoming more common as more people post from iPads and iPhones. You obviously cared enough to fix the issue at your first opportunity. Thank you for that courtesy to other LJs that will be viewing your posts.

As unfair as it may be, I have come to the same conclusion as others-if someone doesn't care enough to post the photos oriented correctly, I won't waste my time looking. It's not difficult, or if someone really can't figure it out, find a 10-12 year old to fix it. They are far better at technology than most of us. That is reality, not an insult, I'm including myself in that group

 

I was going to just delete the workshop post last night and repost the whole thing this morning. However, when I went to remove the pics, the option to "browse" for new photos didn't come up. I was afraid to remove all the photos for fear I might not be able to post any. Unfortunately, I felt like I had to leave them like that until I could get to a PC. As it turns out, once you remove all the pics, the "browse" option comes back up. (I had a similar problem with changing my nickname on the profile page. I was new to the site and had put something in quick, then wanted to change it. That seemed to be the one thing that you can't change. I resorted to putting my nickname in the spot for my real name and choosing that as my posting ID. Probably something I am doing wrong.)

Robin1, Yours was one of the ones that got me… I know it is weird OCD on my part… But there were something like 5 or so recent workshop posts with everything sideways…

I guess I am used to being able to easily edit my photos on my Android I forget how tough things are for Apple users…

 

Maybe they don't want us to see them I don't fret over this sort of thing and just move on to the next project, I figure if they wanted everyone to see the projects they'd make the effort to post them correctly.

 

I just invented a gravity machine to stick all my tools to my right wall. For storage of course.

 

It's really no big deal. Some guys get OCD on grammar and spelling. That typically doesn't bother me. But image rotation just got under my skin today… No biggie…

 

And the gravity machine just broke so it's right side up.

With my iphone4s all my pics load side ways. I had to rotate the pic anyway but right side up, save it, rotate it back right side up and it did the trick.

 

Fridge, iphone pics will load fine with no extra effort if you shoot landscape pics with the home bottom to the right.
