In case others are wondering, Paul Sellers talks about his three broken ribs, difficulty breathing, and pain. It was caused by a runner who assaulted Paul while Paul was out riding his bicycle.

Was the assailant identified and charged?

 

It takes a special kind of scum to attack an old man from behind. I hope that guy gets everything that should come to him. Glad to see Paul is doing better though and hope he makes a complete recovery.

I hope so, too, but after reading the UK forum for a few years until perhaps two years ago, it sounds like the justice system there can act awfully lenient at times.

I suppose many of the rest of us would have also stopped and taken the side of the lady and kids. A good lesson, don't turn your back on someone if there is ill will.

When I was a kid (rural, but not super rural), fisticuffs between evenly matched folks in a situation like this would've been looked past in most cases. But this isn't a case of folks being evenly matched. By saying when I was a kid, I mean between the adults, fisticuffs was still not uncommon, even among the white collar neighbors. Which makes me even more surprised to see how much more aggravated assault there was back then on record, because the result in the 80s was busted knuckles and a shiner more often than it was calling the police and documenting it.

You'd get sued these days if you even pushed someone.

 

I hope they catch and prosecute the assailant. I hope to see news where the police identify and charge him.

At the very least, I hope the assailant lost their favorite running route out of fear of identification. Small penalty, but it may be all that happens.
