My Craftman random orbit sander finally wore out, and I was going to replace it with another of the same model - which you can't get anymore.
So instead of $60, I spent $80 on the Makita. It was a good move.
Obviously I can't comment on its longevity yet, but it's much smoother, quieter, and it has way way way better dust collection. It also has a very slow speed that Craftsman doesn't have, which among other applications is useful for scuffing the surface in between finish coats. And I like where the switch is (momentary contact, but you can lock it).
The extra handle gets in the way for woodworking, but it takes three seconds to remove it, and it might be useful if I ever get in the mood to go out and sand some houses or something.
It's hard to jump up and down with excitement over a sander, but I figured I'd post my impressions.
