Having done a ton of slabs over the years here is technique we use quite often to either make a slab or alter an existing one. Works well

Great idea Charles. You put gel stain over lacquer to create the contrast. Can you do the same with dye?

You can use a dye, Gel stains being thicker seem to hang in the texture better. But anything will work, just be sure to test, remember your going over a finish so getting the color can be an issue.

 

used this technique on a bar top that the client wanted a live edge on..worked really well.. loved it!!

Interesting. I've done similar steps for the bark but never thought of the rotary tool for texture. Will have to give it a try.
