Laguna BS Fence Replacement

I recently upgraded to a used 16" Laguna band saw. The aluminum fence has had the blade dug into it about 1/16" of an inch. I bought this unit to get a larger capacity and to do a little resawing. Will the gouge heavily affect resaws?

I contacted Laguna and they do not carry a stock replacement for this model. The manufacturer is in Bulgaria and I sent them an email but I don't there will be a cheap solution if they have a replacement with the shipping cost.

Laguna makes a universal fence, Drift Master, which is currently not being sold because they are
coming out with a newer version. Can someone else recommend alternatives that will not be $450ish.

Thanks for replying Pete. I had a similar thought.

I uploaded pictures in my original post. The fence is painted. So I can strip the paint and use bondo filler and then repaint. I am not familiar with the other fillers you recommended. Another thought I had was attaching aux to the face which would require some mounting clamps or both ends that would be clear of the face.

As crazy as it may sound, there are a lot of standard extrusions out there. Was at trade show for manufactures not too long ago and was amazed to see the "standard" parts that several vendors charge hundreds of dollars for (fencing, tooling, alignment, etc.). Amazing.

Would believe that something like that and maybe a little mounting efforts could be a good sort.

If brain dead, never said it was the best of ideas......

Otherwise, just about any metal compatible epoxy can be used to fill in the horizontal ribs. JB Weld would work too.

Phil.. Sent you a DM. Thank you.

From the pictures, it looks like it should fit or at least workable. What I find really disappointing was the calls with Laguna support. It took weeks to get assigned to c/s person. Once I was assigned someone they were very good with the follow calls. (received 4 calls) But the information they had and the engineer he was talking to could not come up with this same simple solution.

Why not just clamp a piece of wood to the fence and save hundreds of dollars? If you want something more slick than the face of a piece of plywood, apply some UHMW poly to the face of the plywood. You can get a couple of these clamps:

or something similar to hold the wood against the fence. Michael Fortune has a great solution for a fence that converts quickly from a tall fence to something that will allow you to cut 3/4" or 1/2" stock with the guides close to the work, vs 6" above the work See this:

You could even try just applying some UHMW poly directly to the face of your existing fence. The UHMW poly would span those scores in the fence and give you a nice slick surface at the same time and you'd have money to spend on other tools:
