I'm looking at the Rikon Model 20-110 6" delux jointer

I'm looking to upgrade my detla model 37-280 6" jointer. My reason for wanting to upgrade is because the center fence mount is flimsy. I already had to replace the center support (part #1342336, cost $69.02.) because a piece of 2" PVC pipe fell on it and snapped in half. Also, I had to replace the motor relay. As far as performance goes, it works great. It's well suited to shorter boards, under 6 feet, but the fence center mount starts to flex when challenged with heavier pieces.

My 2 car wood shop is typically space challanged so I want a smaller machine that is mobile. I came across the Rikon 6" jointer. The features I find attractive are, 1) locking cutter head for easy knife changing, 2) the 2 speed motor and 3) the heavy duty fence center mount with those fancy control knobs.

This will be my THIRD jointer, I want to be very, very sure that I will be satified with my last jointer purchase.
I'm looking for comments from the guys who have experience with this machine. I'm in no hurry, it's getting harder for me to save so hopefully I'll have it before space suits become in fashion.

I'm looking forward to your comments.
Thanks a bunch, your buddy.

I had a Delta 6" "Professional" jointer a few years back which I had to sell before moving. Didn;t get to use it much, but I can tell you it had not one but TWO warped fences, when you count the replacement they sent. The experience really put me off the brand.

I looked at the Rikon you're talking about around a year ago when Woodcraft was having a promotion on them. Seeing it in the store, it's quality didn't really impress me. I ended up getting a Powermatic. More in the Rikon price range though, have you looked at any of the Grizzly jointers? I'm not specifically knowledgeable with their line of jointers, but I recently got a Griz G0457 14'' bandsaw, I've been very impressed with the quality.

These 3 look like they have potential:

G0452

G0604X

G0452Z

I'm sure you can dig up a review which includes some or all of them.

Good luck

When I was looking to buy my 2nd jointer, I was fully planning to get another 6", but so many people told me they regretted not getting an 8" that I stretched & went for the larger size. I haven't regretted it, but of course if all you can fit is a 6, you're limited to that.

Larry, you're the man! You gave me the information I need. Thanks a lot.
I hope I can answer one of your questions to the same satifaction.

It looks like the quality is slipping across most of the brands. The good ones keep getting more
expensive and the poor qualify hold their price. I own several grizzly machines including the
G1023Z table saw. I may have go the grizzly route, I am reluctant because I have expierence
with their spotty quality.

Thanks a bunch, your buddy.
