We bought a used router table cabinet from a club member. They drilled holes for 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch router bit storage. Unfortunately, there are way too many 1/2 inch holes and not enough convenient 1/4 inch holes.
I can make small inserts that would go into the 1/2 inch holes, for 1/4 inch bits. I haven't decided whether to turn them on the lathe or make them on the drill press. It doesn't matter.
My question is:
-> How can I prevent the inserts from "popping out" when I remove a 1/4 inch router bit? I could glue them in, but it would be better if the adapters can be removed later where needed. What I want is some type of temporary solution, so I can convert storage back to 1/2 inch when needed.
(Rockler sells inserts that hold both 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch router bits, but they require a 5/8 inch hole. I do not want to redrill the holes, nor do I want to spend money on something that I can make easily.)
-> How would you attach/stick the little router bit adapters so that they stay in place, but are not permanent?
