I may just have that entire page removed.

Let me think through some options.

P.S. I have always used Flickr as needed but mostly I upload pictures from my computer or phone.

Removing it is a good idea! That Guide is incredibly LONG & COMPLEX!

I also download everything I need, including Pictures directly to my Computer. A lot less work.

If I want to upload it to here. Use the "Brown img button" That opens "Choose A File" when You've done that. "Insert this image" DONE!

I used PB for a few Months. Pain in the Butt!

Just a FYI: While I am no computer wizard, I was at office depot (or whatever they call it now) and I see where they have 3 and 4 TB home cloud systems. These things cost less than PB wanted for one year subscription.
I am currently using a 1 TB external drive to backup photos and other important info, and will probably burn them on to DVDs soon, just for additional backup.
PB was a necessity when a lot of forums and websites wanted 3rd party hosting, but it's been a while since I've seen one. They kind of screwed a lot of folks the way they just switched off third party hosting, but I can see why they did it. It's kind of a dying niche.

What I've gleaned over the years is that LJ is custom software, changes take time and labor and Verticalscope is not willing to invest more money into the site. They are not woodworkers and just want the ad revenue. I mean there are other broke things I've mentioned to Cricket but don't expect they will ever be fixed.

I'm with Smitty on this one. It is true that Verticalscope are all about the revenue, but they won't continue to get that revenue if people are put off joining the site because they get frustrated because of out of date instructions or functionality.

Good Heavens! Why on earth would they (Verticalscope) use custom software? There are dozens of really good open source content management systems with considerably more features than this site. And they wouldn't have to maintain the base code.

So, who or what is Verticalscope? What they aren't is a software platform. The few sites I browsed have a wide variety of underlying engines including a few OS forums and at least one Joomla (OS CMS) site. They are, it seems, an advertising company of sorts based in Canada. Their business model is to acquire successful community domains and monetize them with ads. Their value to LJ is they eat the hosting costs. Nothing particularly wrong with that, I suppose. However, expecting any sort of support beyond basic site maintenance and issues affecting ad revenue might be a bit of a reach.

This site appears to be a host served dynamic page system, pretty much a classic content management system strategy. I'm guessing a PHP/MySQL server on the host side. The actual content resides on the server. Browsers request a page, the server software fetches the appropriate data, formats the page and sends it back. Real last century stuff.

Typically, there's a privileged admin function to allow for site management including editing any and all content. At least that's what the vast majority of CMS systems do. So, saying it's buried in the code either isn't true or LJ is in dire need of a new engine on the back end. There isn't anything on this site that WordPress (the elephant in the room) couldn't do along with a lot more. And instead of a 200 person company, WP has several thousand people maintainig the base code.

PS. The help page remains unchanged.
