LOL, mine bent but did not crack like yours. My saw was a Ridgid, but most all of the saws are the same with a different paint job, search "Brand name" bandsaw upper hinge assembly, and you might find it out there in the web

I had no idea that part broke so much. I'm finding more and more reports of that. Might make swallowing the cost of the cast iron part on eBay a bit easier.

Why they made a high stress part out of pot metal I will never understand.

 

Im rebuilding a Delta Rockwell 14" Band Saw Circa 1963, that part looks identical to the one on it.

I believe you can get one from Grizzly, or at least you used to be able to.

BTW: That is the single most common failure on the 14" Cast Iron Delta and its clones like yours. Over tension the blade and that is what happens. Even more prevalent on machines with a riser block.

Jonah, when mine went the part was still available from Ridgid, when I got the new part it weighed nearly twice what the original part did so I assume they at least figured it out towards the end. Thanks for bringing your question here, as Brad said, more common with a riser and I have the riser and run a 105" band, might be worth it to put one of these parts in the high storage for future need.

I once had a Ridgid bandsaw that had a lot of components made out of this same material, such as the part mentioned above. When the saw was around 20 years old or so, almost every part made out of this same material broke, all within a few months. It's like this type of casting just gave out. I replaced every part that I could find available and ended up selling it. It was a great saw, just didn't use it much after I got a Laguna.

I ended up ordering a part from ereplacementparts.com. I very strongly considered both a cast iron version from ebay and making my own out of 1/2" steel plate, but decided to order one based on the fact that I can't for the life of my get the roll pin holding the shaft in the existing part out. The cast iron one is $60 without the shaft, so I'd need to reuse it, and I can't get the damn thing out.

I will probably end up drilling it out, but I already chowdered up the shaft a bit because I put a wrench on it thinking it was threaded in.

If the replacement part ever breaks, I'm definitely making a steel plate version.

Update: the bandsaw is now fixed.

I ended up ordering a part for a Wilton saw from ereplacementparts.com. It was this part:

I ordered that because it was cheap, looked more solid than the OEM part, and came with the shaft attached. I actually tried to remove the shaft from the existing part, but there's a roll pin in there that I could not for the life of me get out. I should have just drilled it out to begin with, but the shaft got chowdered up enough from me cranking on it with a wrench before I noticed the roll pin that I needed to replace it anyway. I originally thought it was just friction fit.

I thought seriously about replacing the pot metal with cast iron or steel plate, and I still might do that. There's a cast iron replacement on eBay, but it costs $60+shipping. It's $100 with the shaft.

I did pick up a piece of half inch steel plate and I had to order a part last week from Grizzly anyway, so I just added an extra shaft ($8 I think) to the order. I might end up fabricating the part out of the 6×6x0.5 steel plate I picked up.
