Might be worth a try, but my money is on the saw dust not sliding down, just piling up on the thing. Do you have a link where it can be purchased?

this is what I use on my ridgid table saw. It works as it should on my saw but i have a 1 1/2 border all around the bottom of the saw where it meets the funnel and it does pile up a small amount of dust. I added a piece of cardboard on the back of my saw with magnets to make the opening smaller and this fixed my problem. now if i could find a way to keep saw dust from spraying out of the gullets onto the top of my table saw ( yes I am using a zero clearance insert) i find the dust on top of the saw increase when I use a rip blade in stead of a crosscut blade - any suggestions ?

 

I use the large shroud from the Harbor Freight Dust Collection Accessory Kit on my C'man 113 TS.

It is just a friction fit, between the base & cabinet. It collects most of the dust, but dust does accumilate on the lip around the edge and does need to be vacuumed out occasionally. I have not sealed the back, around the motor, as 1yeldud1 has done. That is on the shop "To-Do List"!!!

 

It will work, I got one under my Ridgid contractor saw. Took some doing to get it installed, but now that it's in I haven't had any problem with it.

Worked so good, I put one on my joiner too!

 

Best of luck on your saw cabinet. It should help you considerably in collecting the dust.

Thanks for the inputs ya'll. I know nothing is 100% effective, but this is sure going to be better than what I had.

Joe - I found it on Amazon. Just typed in dust hood and a bunch came up.

Randy - I'd seen those all over the place, but wasn't real sure how effective they were.

I wish that I would of caught this thread sooner. I have a better dust hood that is more efficient, and is made from sheet metal, which makes it self grounding if your saw is grounded properly. With the Big Gulp, you'll either have to bend the hose or add an elbow to route the hose out from the bottom of the saw, both procedures are CFM killers. I have made these in several different sizes, including a custom size.

That'll work fine. Dust collection on a contractor saw will be marginal at best, and what you found will do everything you need!

A little door insulation around the edges and it pretty much fit right up. Had to trim a corner so it would fit around a bolt, but other than that…

I have some sign magnet that I use to close off the back. I'll have to play with it to see if it's worth leaving the back off or not.

And I took a couple of extra magnet pieces and put them inside sloped down to keep it from piling up on the sides.

 

Nice work. The gentle tapers on the sides will really aid on funneling the air flow nicely. I bet you will get good results with this.

 

SamuraiSaw : Dust collection on a contractor saw will be marginal at best. Thats what people that don't know how to do it, and cabinet saw pushers say.

 

The big gulp is flat all around the edges, I use on for my lathe. You might look at this as well, not quite as tall and may be easier to manage under your saw. I used this one for years under a Delta, and it worked fine….made by the same company as the big gulp. I stuck mine on with double coated foam tape.

Chuckie decided to drag up an old thread this morning. He edited his post so many times it's impossible to know exactly what his intention was, but that's his usual pattern. Maybe he's mad because somebody bought a reasonable solution to their problem instead of his home made doo-dad. Oh well…...........

 

I guess that I need to throw a picture out there to explain what I'm getting at.

 

No sharp bends, and don't completely close the back on a contractor saw. Shutting the back cuts off the air flow. Partial closing is ok.

You got it Bill. Close the hand wheel slot in the front of the cabinet with a piece of magnetic sign material, and close between the cabinet and the under side of the cast iron top with closed cell foam and double sided tape. Then let the air suck into the back of the cabinet.
