Back button does not go back

I always use the back button to return to the sub forum after finishing reading a thread. Today that's not working on my end. The only way to get there is to go up top and hit the "return to" button. The problem with doing it this way is that it returns you to the top instead of the thread that was just finished.

I have experienced the same thing. The only way I can get back one page is to click on "History" on the toolbar, then select the last page I was viewing. I am a big fan of and frequent visitor to Lumberjocks and this is the only website where this is an issue. Puzzling . . .

I'm guessing you are using Internet Explorer as your browser. If so, here is a solution I've posted before (there have been several threads about this issue)

LJ's had the back arrow problem before, it has to do with how doubleclick.net puts ads on the page-the site loads the ads as separate pages, instead of embedded in the LJ page. Easiest way to fix it if you are using IE is to go to Settings, then Internet options and the Security tab. Click on Restricted Sites and then the Sites button. In the "Add this website …" line put in:

*.doubleclick.net

Just like that, including the asterisk, and click the Add button. Reload the LJ homepage and the back button should function correctly after that.

If you are using Chrome or Firefox, then the easiest solution to add the Adblock Plus plugin.

I have the same problem and I use FireFox.
You can right click on the back arrow and a drop down list will show you where "back" will take you.
Notice about the top 7 or 8 destinations are the same place where you are.
Click on the next one down that is different. That will be where "back" should go.
This has happened before. Usually gets fixed in a day or two.

I use Firefox, Jay. I'm trying my best not to have to go with Adblock but Lumberjocks seems to be pushing me to do so. I'm not sure why any site would want to employ adds that cause the user aggravation, and expect that the user will just continue to put up with it without adding Adblock to block all adds on the site.

HI ALL:

Never happened for/to me. Using IE 10 & Windows 7. NO Ad Blocker, yet I never see any Ads. Go figure!

Just a point of clarification. When you say "Back Button", do you mean the "Back Arrow" in the Upper Left Corner? I think that's part of your Browser, not Site Installed. So, maybe not.

When I use that Arrow I can "click" back as far as I want from wherever I am on here one page at a time.

Also if you Left Click and hold it for a few seconds a "History List" will slide down and list everywhere you've been on here. You can choose one of them, click it and you'll go right back there.

Dat's it Folks. ...LOL..

I have the problem too with Firefox 36 but I didn't notice it until I read this post. My method is to middle mouse button click the item I want to read opening it in a new tab. When I am done reading that item I simply close the tab and return to where I left off. I got into this habit because many web sites create multiple copies in the history and I got tired of searching the history. Once you get in the habit of doing this you will never be "bothered" by it again.

If you are not going to look at the ads anyway, why not just fix the problem for good with an ad blocker like AdblockPlus?

That's a good point, Chuck. The reason I haven't done this yet, although I'm closer to doing so everyday, is I feel that these advertisements are the main stream of income for the site. It seems to me that if enough people go the adblock route, there will be no motivation for a company to advertise on this site. Now I could be wrong about this, it may be that if enough people use adblock then the site and the advertisers will change the way the adds are presented.

Unfortunately this does not appear to be something we can fix from our end as it may be related to us changing to the plain text ads for logged in members to help speed up the site and to prevent the videos that kept showing up. It appears to be a known Firefox issue as I am finding other communities dealing with the same issue.

I am hoping that we will be able to upgrade this site in the coming months (I can barely wait!) but for now using Chrome is the option available for us.
