Hi All,

Local to me a guy is selling a Delta JT360 new in the box. He is asking $300 and wondering if it is worth it?

I think they're ok jointers, the advantage of being in the box is that likely no one will have damaged anything. You can get a helical cutterhead for them. A well worn but not apparently abused one about an hour from me came up for sale for $200 with a helical cutterhead already installed, it didn't last long. The problem is most jointers in that size are just ok and have a new price tag of typically more than double what he's asking. If it will do what you need it to, the $300 price could be an ok deal, if think you'll want something bigger soon, you might be selling for $150-$200 in a few years to get it gone. Depending on your location, how well it's been photographed (even if just the box), how it's be described in the ad and what platform(s) it has been advertised on, it might not last very long.

Keep in mind that it's hard to get parts for Delta stuff anymore.
The cabinet shop I worked for locally had an old Delta, and the last time I tried to get parts for it - Gib Screws - they had 8 left in the whole country, and that was it. I bought all of them and had to make do for the rest.

Tool prices are stupid high at this point. If I recall, those are a standard, plain jane floor model short bed 6" jointer. Not a bad unit, just not fancy. Yeah they went for about that much 10 years ago. No warranty for sure.

Cheap benchtop models these days seem to start at $450.00

Mind you, If it were available near me, I would offer $200.00, and see if I can get it for $250.00, but I would NOT be offended, especially considering it is NOS, at paying $300.00 for it… Just don't go over that mark.
