I’m starting a very exciting project. Anything new that I try is exciting for me. I love new things and new techniques. I build a lot of murphy beds, as you can see from my post, but when I got customer wanting to add a whale design to one, I was all in.
I don’t consider myself an artist or my work art, so this would be my first attempt at something like that. I’ve heard and read a little on marquetry and decided this would be the direction I’d take the customer. If you don’t know, Marquetry is the cutting and assembling of a variety of thin woods (veneers) into a pattern or picture. There are a lot of great artist that have great marquetry work on Lumberjocks. I even messaged a few for some great information.
I had the customer send me a couple pictures of whales they liked. I had their picture turned into a simple two color design that I sent back to the customer as a scale version of the murphy bed face. Here is what I sent:

I do like starting new projects, sometimes they kick my butt though. The marquetry is looking good, a bit out of the ordinary. The table you are working on is incredible, I think it is Sal’s table. Nice web site you got there, very well constructed.
