After seeing some plane restorations by LJ ‘ToddJB’ back in December, I was glad to see someone asked him how he got such a terrific surface on the sides of his planes. This is a Craigslist find that I picked up a while ago. It was made in mid-late 1970’s I believe. I had to do just a little cleaning up on it but it ran fine, but it has a lot of vibration. It’s heavy, cast iron everything above the stand, but it does vibrate a lot. The bearings seem smooth enough, I wonder if I just need to replace the belt. Oh well, I’ve been using it on a project I’m doing for my daughter for the last few weeks and it works fine. For as old as it is...

I emailed simple green and a rep confirmed that the standard simple green should not be used to soak carbide tipped blades.
