I made this ladder style bookcase for m wife’s hair salon. She needed a place to put magazines and hair products. I made the bookcase out of Sapele wood. I hope you like it. Thanks for watching!

My wife has one with similar styling in her salon that she got from Ikea. Your’s being solid wood and nice joinery would be much, much nicer for sure! Great job! What keeps it from racking from side to side?

smitdog, I was worried about the racking because the design doesn’t have a backboard so I made the entire bookcase about a foot lower than i originally planned and lowered the bottom shelf as much as I could with out it looking bad to my eye. That combined with the shelves being inset in to the rails and glued in tight fitting dadoes kept the piece pretty solid. We took it to my wife’s shop last night and loaded it with magazines and it doesn’t rack even with a lot of weight on it. Thanks for checking it out!

Another husband of a salon owner!!! Are you the full time maintenance man? I am always fixing plumbing, adding electrical receptacles because the newest hair dryers overload the breakers or changing light ballasts. LOL But, happy wife, happy life.
