shop made tools #1: Shop made Krenov inspired smoothing plane

08-01-2011 01:47 AM by Don W | 14 comments »

A few months ago I found the 1975 version of “The Fine Art of Cabinetmaking James Krenov” at a flee market. It was well worth the $5 I paid for it. I think its well worth the read. One of the chapters explained how to make a plane that I found intriguing. I have wanted to make a plane for a while, and this chapter just added fuel to the fire. The Kenov book probably isn’t the perfect book for making your first plane though. I really liked the planes in the book, but it wa...

04-10-2013 03:59 AM by pendledad | 8 comments »

Bought some 8×24” hvac duct from home depot. 2 feet of 2” pvc. Some sheet metal screws and I hit the shop. I kept seeing a bunch of ads for wooden neckties and after seeing the prices, I decided to make my own. These are pretty easy to make and would be fun Christmas gifts. Here's a cutting template.

Wee Lil Chairs #1: Small Steps

11-08-2009 01:52 AM by Zuki | 7 comments »

A couple of years ago I built a table and chair set for a friend’s two little girls. Well since then they had a little boy and the “Lil Guy” needs a chair. I poked around the shop to try and find the drawings for the set so that I could get some measurements. I found something that looked like kids chairs so off I went. The previous set of chairs had a straight back, but this set I wanted a little rake. So I made this template from some packaged pine I planed down some scrap spr...
